STAINMORE
The Federation was down at Stainmore on Saturday 4th August. Eighty-seven members sent 2,123 birds and they were liberated at 8.30am into a very light South-East wind.
The birds made short work of it and homed into Dumfries with velocities into the 1600s. Very good returns were reported and most fanciers had a good race.
Stainmore is only fifty-five miles from my location (Ecclefechan) and as always they arrived home in big batches whereupon they usually have a fly around the lofts before landing. Next week will be the same as we’re back down to Stainmore once again.
Just look at the way they were homing this week: G.Grant & Son got eleven of a drop, Karl Guenther also eleven of a drop. J.M.Dalgliesh gets eight, Jimmy Dalgliesh another eleven and so on. Myself, I think the race points are too close at hand and so the pigeons are enjoying themselves flapping about the sky once they home. Think about it for a moment, Appleby, Stainmore, Stainmore, three races and only a fifty-five mile flight?
Anyway next week they go over to the west for our fourth race from Garstang which is around eighty-nine miles for most fanciers.
Brydekirk H.C. 6/225
The Gold Cup winner of the S.N.F.C. 2012 race J.M.Dalgliesh times the leading four into the club to take 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th Club, 2nd and 10th Open. All chequers doing velocities of 1602.1, 1577, 1576 and 1569. Well done partner, and he doesn’t even use the E.T.S.
H.Dobie has the next two and takes 5th and 6th Section on 1560.6 and 1560.1, great timing as he also doesn’t use E.T.S.
Springfield H.C. 9/324
Gordon Grant & Son had a dream race here timing eleven birds between their two lofts to take 1st to 9th Club plus 11th and 13th on velocities of between 1528 to 1472. Now that takes a bit of doing in any club with 324 birds competing. Well done to both.
Annan H.C. 11/216
A.Nicholson takes this one timing his Blue Bar Cock to record a velocity of 1559. J.Muir & Sons’ ‘Loft 1’ times two taking 2nd and 5th Club doing 1553, 1538.
R.S.R.Rome & R.J.Rome are 3rd on 1546 and Crombie & Mechan 4th doing 1540.
Hoddam F.C. 8/185
A good win here for Jimmy Dalgliesh, he timed a nice Grizzle Cock and a Blue Hen to take 1st and 4th Club doing 1495, 1452. G.Dalgiesh & Son are 2nd on 1470. Mr & Mrs J.Graham take 3rd and 5th with velocities of 1458, 1433.
Eastriggs H.C. 8/175
Another win for R.Nelson & D.Holliday on 1448, followed by Mr & Mrs Mark Goldie doing 1445. John Pollack was 3rd doing 1438 and G.Bushell takes 4th on 1433.
Lockerbie H.C. 9/227
Davy Robinson does it again timing the leading three on velocities of 1464, 1461 and 1455.
Davy Cockcroft takes 4th and 5th (climbing up the ladder from last week), his two birds doing 1386 and 1385.
Langholm H.C. 4/123
D.Nordon takes both 1st and 2nd here on 1284 and 1273. W.Irving is 3rd doing 1258 and R.V.Graham has the next two on 1250 and 1244.
Nith Valley H.C. 12/288
Very well done to A.Russell who clocked three top pigeons to take 1st, 2nd and 3rd Club, 1st, 2nd and 6th West Section as well as 1st, 2nd and 7th Open from 2,123 birds, his winner being a Cheq Pied Hen. The three velocities were 1606, 1602.7 and 1589.
Albert Hay comes in 4th on 1585 and also takes 7th West Section, 8th Open.
G.Russell is 5th Club, 8th Section, 9th Open doing 1582.
Dumfries F.C. 11/294
Well what can you say about this partnership? They timed the Club’s leading nine birds and had five of them in the West Sections leading ten. I’m talking about Mr & Mrs Karl Guenther. They timed to take 3rd, 4th, 5th, 9th and 10th West Section, 4th, 5th, 6th Open with velocities of 1599.8, 1599.4, 1599.1, 1575 and 1574, their winner being a fine Blue Bar Hen.
Dalbeattie H.C. 3/34
It’s a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for Carl Milligan over in Dalbeattie doing 1355, 1348 and 1347.
Jim Wallace takes 4th on 1335.
