SOLWAY NEWS

Garstang - August 2012

The Solway Federation (89/1,813) were down at Garstang on Saturday 18th August. They were liberated at 2.30pm into a light South-West wind. It wasn’t the best of days with rain falling most of the morning; however by 2.30pm the weather was clearing up and we got our race. Well if you could call it a race! Once again we had many losses throughout the Fed and not many home even two days later. Over thirty percent of them are now down and we can only guess at what happened. One of the theories are that they ’crashed’ with a another Scottish Fed down at Appleby and when you see the Langholm velocities it looks like that theory may be right. The winner in Langholm was doing a velocity of 1511 and the other Langholm birds were doing between 1492 and 1474. Could our birds be further up in Scotland? Other club velocities were:

Springfield       1431.

Annan               1268.

Eastriggs          1303.

Hoddam            1387.

Lockerbie         1340.

Nith Valey        1195.

Dumfries F.C.   1192.

Dalbeattie        945.

Brydekirk         1311.

Everyone in the Federation expected this to happen and of course it did. When will we ever learn?

Club Results

Langholm H.C. 4/118

Langholm took the first ten in the Federation. A.Henderson took 1st, 7th and 9th Open Fed doing 1511, 1482 and 1480.

R.V.Graham is 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th with velocities of between 1492 to 1482.6. W.Irving is 10th doing 1474.

The winning bird for A.Henderson is a Chec Cock. Well done Langholm!

Hoddam F.C.   6/131

It’s two on the trot for Mr & Mrs J.Graham, timing a young Blue Pied Hen doing 1387. Not far behind and timing two good birds is Jimmy Dalgliesh. Jimmy’s loft is on top form just now and this week he takes 2nd and 3rd Club doing 1372 and 1342. A & S Little are 4th on 1338.

You may have noticed this week I’ve stopped at the first four in each club. This is at the B.H.W’s request.

Brydekirk H.C.  7/252

Another 1st and 2nd goes to Rob Renwick over in Creca; his two birds were doing 1311 and 1301. Next in line were Scaife & Garner on 1284, followed by J.M.Dalgliesh taking 4th on 1257.

Annan H.C.  15/33

Angus Simmons has his team in good order at the moment and he times in to take 1st Club on 1268. This is his second win in four races. Well done! G.W.Campbell comes in only a couple of yards behind to take 2nd on 1266.  J.F.McCarton is 3rd doing 1264 and Stevie Ferguson is 4th on 1236.

Eastriggs H.C.  8/93

The Gold this week goes to G.Bushell on 1303, followed by R.Nelson & D.Holliday on 1273. A.Dunglinson takes 3rd doing 1255 and young John Pollock is 4th doing 1222.

Nith Valley H.C.   14/274

Another fine win for lady fancier Linda Hay. Linda timed her young blue Cock to take 1st Club, 1st West Section from 547 birds doing a velocity of 1195. Linda has had a very good year having been 8th West Section (old birds) from Shap, 5th West Section from Appleby, 2nd West Section, and 6th Open Garstang with old birds. She also took 7th west section, 8th Open Stainmore and now 1st West Section Garstang. Not bad for a lady fancier, stick in there Linda!

A.Crosbie takes 2nd Club, 5th West Section. Skachill & McCormack are 3rd Club, 6th West Section. A.Russell is 4th, 5th Club, 7th and 8th Section. Albert Hay 9th West Section and B.Love 10th Section.
