SOLWAY NEWS
By Jimmy Graham
59 sent 731. The Solway Federation was down at Worksop on Saturday 27th August. They were liberated at 10.25am into a light South-West wind.
Worksop to Ecclefechan is around 149 miles to most of the lofts and it took over four hours to cover the distance.
Only one bird made a velocity of over 1100 and that bird was timed by G A & L Firth of Lockerbie. His good young Cheq Cock had a velocity of 1113.4.
This race was by no way a walk over as many lofts had heavy losses, as you can see by the entry of 731 birds considering only a few weeks ago from Stainmore we had 2249 birds competing.
Anyway back to the results and we have R J B Renwick of Brydekirk taking 2nd Open on 1083. Mr & Mrs Gus Power & Allen take 3rd and 5th Open doing 1076 and 1073.
Kenny Thomson of Lockerbie is 4th Open on 1074. Mr & Mrs J Graham of Hoddam take 6th and 8th Open doing 1063 and 1060.
Raymond White of Springfield is 9th on 1059, 10th Open goes to Mr & Mrs Chris Little of Eastriggs doing 1053.
Next week is the last race and we’ll be down at Newark for the Open Federation race. Good luck to all!
Clubs:
Springfield H.C. 10/91
Good flying here from Mr & Mrs Gus Power & Allen, they timed five birds in the leading six into the Club with velocities of 1076, 1073, 1050, 1046 and 1044 to take 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th. Raymond White took the 3rd spot doing 1059. They should be well placed in the Fed.
Hoddam F.C. 7/98
Well boys I’ve broke my record by winning for the 11th time (I won 10 last year). This week Mr & Mrs J Graham took 1st, 3rd and 4th Club doing 1063, 1060 and 1053. My winner this week is once again from Ron Crook stock, (the winner this week Ron is from the un-rung Black Hen). I finished up this week getting sixteen back out of eighteen. With one race and S.N.F.C. Leicester race to go I still have twenty-five young left from a start of thirty-eight, so not doing too bad I guess.
Taking 2nd spot in the race is G Dalgliesh & Son doing 1062, John Little takes 5th doing 1049.

Brydekirk H.C. 6/128
R J B Renwick once again takes 1st, 2nd, 3rd Club with velocities of 1083, 1046 and 1044. Scott Irving ‘Jnr’ timed the next one on 1038.
Annan H.C. 7/58
Only seven birds were timed in at clock opening out of fifty-eight sent, that’s the kind of race it was.
Taking the Red and Green cards this week is R S R & R J Rome doing 1017 and 954, followed by Danny Muir in 2nd spot doing 977. W Jamieson is 4th on 954 and P E Heslop, J F McCarton and C P Irving made up the remaining seven.
Lockerbie H.C. 5/103
G A & L Firth wins this one timing his good young Chec Cock on a velocity of 1113.4, this was the only bird to break the 1100s and looks good to top the Federation, well done!
Kenny Thomson takes 2nd and 5th doing 1074 and 1038. The winning loft comes in again on 1049, followed by Ewan Hind & Allen 4th on 1047.
Eastriggs H.C. 7/62
1st and 2nd goes to Mr & Mrs Chris Little doing 1053 and 1041.
Mr & Mrs Mark Goldie are 3rd and 4th doing 1031 and 1017.
Nith Valley 5/63
Once again Nith valley dominates the West Section having eight birds in the leading ten.
Topping the Section for the third time with the youngsters is A Skachill; his good Cheq Pd Hen recorded a velocity of 1034.
Lady fancier Linda Hay (who only started with young birds this year) takes 2nd Club on 1024. Linda has done herself proud by scoring in five of the West Section's six races collecting nine good Federation West Section awards. This takes a bit of doing with ten flying members in her Club. Stick in there lass, you show them! G Russell takes 3rd Club on 1021.
West Section Result 12/143
1st A Skachill on 1034. 2nd, 8th and 10th goes to Mrs Linda Hay with velocities of 1024, 986 and 980. G Russell is 3rd Section doing 1021. Jim Seaton takes 4th Section on 1007.6. Mr & Mrs Karl Guenther 5th Section on 1007.2.
No other results from the West I’m afraid.
