SOLWAY NEWS

By Jimmy Graham

The Solway Federation (95/1752) was down at Wollaston on Saturday 26th May 2012. The birds were liberated at 7.45am into a light East wind, however at the home end and half way up the course things were different with a strong East wind blowing and the temperature steadily rising.

We were starting to get worried by the clock opening at 2.00pm as the returns were like 5/15, 5/16, 14/31 and so on. At the close of the day it was just the same with 10s, 20s and even 30s missing. Some fanciers are calling it a day and are now finished for the year and we were only 186 miles down the road. It’s seems it’s always the same, the leaders are always on time and then there’s great gaps inbetween.

Anyway back to the race and the Federation winner. Now this fancier has won before from Garstang and took 6th Open Fed from 2,136 birds. Showing the men up is Mrs Linda Hay of Nith Valley Club. Nith Valley has eleven members and entered 152 birds to this one. Linda’s won this one from 1,752 birds competing and her yearling Chequer Cock takes the gold. So we have a good lady flyer and a good lady convoyer.
