Cheltenham - June 2012

The Solway Federation (84/634) was down at Cheltenham on Wednesday 13th June 2012. They were convoyed by the S.N.F.C. and were supposed to be at Newbury but due to the adverse weather they were heldover to the following Wednesday. They were liberated at 8.00am into a light South-East wind. Cheltenham is around 223 miles from Ecclefechan and as expected the birds arrived on time. G. Grant & Son were certainly on time as they topped the Fed by twenty-six yards, but after that the birds were well split up and by night fall quite a few birds were reported AWOL. I myself did okay getting eleven home from twelve away. The leading ten into the Fed are as follows:

Clubs

Springfield H.C.   8/88

Congratulations to the winner. Not only did they win the club but were also the overall winners in the S.N.F.C. The two-year old Blue Pied Hen took 1st Club, 1st Section and 1st Open on a velocity of 1338. The owners, Gordon Grant & Son, have now won five S.N.F.C. races (Great stuff!).

D.& P.Skelton with a yearling Mealy Cock were 2nd Club, 7th Section, and 9th Open on 1126.

Mr & Mrs Gus Power & Allen took 3rd and 4th Club on velocities of 1039 and 925.

 

Hoddam F.C.   8/69

W.Gilmour took this one as well as 9th Section, 10th Open with a two-year old Red Cock doing 1123, followed by Jim Dalgliesh who timed two to take 2nd and 4th Club, 10th Section on velocities of 1121 and 1081.

Mr & Mrs J.Graham are 3rd on 1091 with a four-year old Chec Pied Cock.

 

Lockerbie H.C. 7/43

A good win here for J.J.Morgan, his timer was doing 1109.

In 2nd spot we have Ewan Hind & Son doing 1052.

G.A. & L.Firth are 3rd on 925 and Davy Robinson is 4th doing 898.

 

Eastriggs 9/90

The McMorrine Bros. were out in front here timing a good bird to take 1st Club, 3rd Section, 3rd Open doing 1290.

Jim Ferguson had the next two into the Club with velocities of 1059 and 1006. J.Martin was next doing 990, followed by L.Mitchell 4th doing 976.

 

Brydekirk H.C.  7/51

A good win here for J.M.Dalgliesh timing an easy bird to take 1st Club, 5th Section, and 6th Open on 1220.

Scaife & Garner were in next doing 1083 and R.J.B.Renwick takes the next two doing 1069 and 990.

Langholm H.C.   2/13

Timing the leading four into the Club is D.Nordon; his team was doing velocities of 1063, 1029, 1003.6 and 1003.2.

 

Annan H.C.     15/104

Well done to Crombie & Mechan, not only have they won the Club but also 2nd Open S.N.F.C., 2nd East Section, well done lads! Their winner had a velocity of 1312.

The next loft is never far away, R.S.R.Rome & R.J.Rome. They take 2nd Club, 4th Section and 5th Open doing 1241.

J.Willacy (another fancier who’s never far away) takes 3rd Club, 6th Section, and 7th Open on 1146.

R.& M.Seaton take 4th, Club, 10th East Section on 1098.

 

Nith Valley H.C.   8/53

A good win here for W.J.Smith. His two-year old Grizzle Hen won by a distance to take 1st Club, 1st West Section, 4th Open doing 1261. He also timed another to take 4th Club, 4th West Section doing 1045.

J.Miller takes 2nd and 3rd doing 1163 and 1113, the leading bird being a yearling Blue Bar Hen.

Dalbeattie H.C.  5/45

W.Anderson is 1st and 2nd Club, 5th and 7th West Section timing a yearling Blue Cock doing 1038. His second bird, also a Blue is a three-year old.

N.McCulloch & Son take 3rd Club, 10th West Section on 964. The winner comes in again to take 4th Club doing 919.

 

Dumfries F.C.   13/78

Jim Seaton wins his first race in his new Club including 6th West Section doing 1041. He timed a three-year old Blue Bar Hen.

J.Brown with a Blue Pied Cock is 2nd Club, 8th Section doing 986.

Stanley Boyd is 3rd Club, 9th West Section on 974.
