Stafford Open Race - September 2012
The Solway Federation Open Race (41/401) was flown from Stafford on Saturday 8th September. They were liberated at 12.15pm into a light South-West wind. Stafford is around 162 miles into Ecclefechan and the birds made short work of it covering the miles in just over three hours and twenty-one minutes. Returns were good this week with many fanciers having full returns within the hour. The winning pigeon this week was one of five entered by Springfield fanciers W.F.Van Nuil and his brother Egbert; their young Blue Bar Hen timed in at 15.21pm to record an easy velocity of 1462. They brothers took 1st Club, 1st West Section and 1st Open - well done lads! Clubmates Mr & Mrs Gus Power & Allen timed to take 2nd Club, 10th Open doing 1354 as well as 3rd and 4th Club doing 1273, 1195.

Another great win here for G.A.& L.Firth, timing their Blue Hen to take 1st Club, 2nd Open on 1431. Well done George, you’ve had a great year.
Ewan Hind timed two to take 2nd, 4th Club doing 1349 and 1322. Kenny Thomson takes 3rd Club on 1327.
Hoddam F.C.
Winning their fifth Young Bird race in a row is Mr & Mrs J. Graham. This time I timed a good Blue Cock that won the race from Charnock Richard a fortnight ago. This bird was bred from the stock loft from a Ron and Angela Crook pigeon. In the last two years they have bred fifteen 1st prize winners. This week I was 1st Club, 3rd Section, and 3rd Open doing a velocity of 1414.
John Little timed to take 4th Section, 4th Open doing 1405. John Gilmour takes 3rd Club, 8th Section, 8th Open doing 1366.
Jimmy Dalgliesh (the form man in the Federation) takes 4th Club, 9th Section, 9th Open on 1364 and 10th Section, 10th Open doing 1358.
Brydekirk H.C.
Winning this one is young Scott Irving. He timed two taking 1st and 4th Club with velocities of 1385 and 1326. His winner was 1st Club, 5th Section, and 5th Open. R.J.B.Renwick has two in the leading ten taking 2nd, 4th Club, 6th and ? Section, 6th, 7th Open doing 1367 and 1366.
Annan H.C.
Another win for Angus Simmons who takes 1st and 4th Club doing 1321 and 984; his winner also takes 23rd Open.
J.McCarton is 2nd on 1280 and J.Willacy 3rd doing 1148.
Langholm H.C.
R.V.Graham takes 1st, 2nd, 4th Club, his first one also being 13th Open. Velocities were 1325, 1321 and 1280. A.Henderson is 3rd on 1294.
Nith Valley H.C.
W.J.Smith takes 1st Club, 3rd West Section, 33rd Open doing 1285.5, followed by R.Stewart doing 1285. A.Russell is 3rd and 4th with velocities of 1270 and 1265.
Dumfries F.C.
Stanley Boyd takes this one as well as topping the Section. His winning bird recorded a velocity of 1335.
Mr & Mrs Karl Gunther came in next taking 2nd, 3rd, 4th Club, 2nd, 3rd, 4th West Section with velocities of 1330, 1272 and 1267.
