SOLWAY NEWS

By Jimmy Graham

The Solway Federation Open race was flown from Ripon on Sunday 4th September. Liberated at 11.45am into a very light South wind the convoy of only 236 birds made good time and most fanciers had full returns within half an hour of timing their leaders.

Leading the field was Lockerbie member Kenny Thomson; he had an outstanding race by taking 1st, 2nd and 4th Open on velocities of 1359, 1358 and 1356.92. The winner being a nice Blue Pd Hen.

Following Kenny is the lofts of Mr & Mrs J Graham, having a drop of four birds to take 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th doing 1356.91, 1356.5, 1356.4 and 1356.3. All four birds of mine came from gift birds presented to me by Ron Crook. With this being the last Federation race for us I would like to thank Ron and Angela Crook for helping me to win my twelve race of the season.

John Little of Hoddam came in 8th with a nice Chec Hen doing 1350.

Davy Robinson of Lockerbie timed to take 9th with a velocity of 1349 and the winner was there again to take 10th on 1345.
