SOLWAY NEWS
By Jimmy Graham
The Solway Federation were down at Charnock Richard on Saturday 5th May 2012 where 1,647 birds were liberated at 10.30am into a light North-east wind.
Charnock Richard is 101 miles to my loft and we managed this in just over two hours. This turned out a good race with not many losses.
The birds homed from all directions and the best of the lot was over in Dalbeattie to the lofts of W.Anderson. His good yearling Blue Hen topped the Fed by thirty-six yards. This was an outstanding victory for ‘Wug’ Anderson who also timed another to take 4th Open.
Taking 7th Open Fed and breaking all Club records is the loft of Mr & Mrs Karl Guenther. Karl timed the leading ten birds in his Club, something that has never been done before. He took 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 10th West Section from 504 birds. Karl’s Club, Dumfries F.C. entered 236 birds. I didn’t get all the velocities but the ones I have are: - 1239, 1227, 1214, 1213, 1212 and 1210 respectively.
