Lanarkshire News- Alnwick Race 12/7/25
This week we are back at Alnwick, Northumberland, a comeback race of around 90 miles into lower central Scotland.
The communication came out the previous night to expect a very early liberation ,due to the extreme temperatures.
The weather was very hot with around 34 degrees forecast for England with a light south east wind and around 24 degrees at the home end.
It was a blue sky day, which is usually not conducive to a good racing day.
Fanciers were expecting an early liberation, some rising at 5am in anticipation, but this didn't materialise for one reason or another and the 1200 birds were held till 11am before being liberated.
It must have been the sea mist of the North Sea that was the issue.
We thought the worst for the pigeons with such high temperatures.
Anyway it didn't stop the pigeons producing possible the best race of the season. Most pigeons homing within the first half hour of the first timed.
This week’s 1st Open winner is a very special pigeon who was timed after 1hr 47 minutes for the 94mile journey, recording a velocity of 1549.
The cheque hen has now recorded 2 x 1st Open for the second time for the partnership of Cameron & Fan from Uddingston club.
This cracking hen topped the federation this season from Kettering 274 miles, winning by 52ypm.
This week she was racing 94 miles and winning federation by 26 ypm .
What a pigeon Jim and Sammy have in their hands!
She has raced all season on the celibate system with her at Billericay 345 miles last week ,homing 7th from 13 sent by the partnership. She was over 11 hours on wing and looked as fresh as paint said Jim.
Unfortunately the only bird lost last week was her mate, so she will not go to last Old Bird race of the season from Brighton.
The week before Billericay she also recorded 71st Open from Alnwick.
A real performance pigeon!
The Sire is a Premier loft Geerincks blood lines.
Dam is a Koopman from Leach Brothers ,Hebdon bridge (Syndicate lofts)bloodlines) She has bred many winners with different cocks.
Well what a hen to have in your loft for racing and breeding !
Special mention for Young & Kelly who have recorded 5 x 1st North section wins in 5 weeks.
Truly outstanding flying from the partnership top of the Average Board to date.
