Lanarkshire News- Billericay race Friday 4th July 2025
This week takes us to Billericay in Essex around 345 miles back into lower Central Scotland. The weather again was giving the race controller a headache with heat in the south and heavy showers in the north of the country.
The text came through that we would race mark on Wednesday night for a Friday race.
Having your own transporters allows for such flexibility.
The convoy of 482 birds were liberated at 05 30am in a light west wind. The weather at the home end for the last 100 miles of the journey was low cloud and rain with a very fresh south west wind.
The winner of the race took 8 hrs 8 minutes for the 354 mile journey recording a velocity of 1277ypm.The winners are the red hot loft of Young & Kelly of the Chryston club in the North section.
Their winner a blue yearling cock GB24V 44305 is a very special pigeon. racing brilliantly all season, already recording 1st sect,1st Open Billericay 354 miles,2nd section,10th Open Alnwick ,Alnwick,100 miles,1st section ,3rd Open Kettering 283 miles,7th section,16th Open Leicester 262 miles,6th section,7th Open Wooler 84 miles.
I think you couldn’t get a better winner of the biggest race on the Lanarkshire calendar .
A brilliant performer raced by top pigeon fanciers Stewart Young and Karl Kelly.
His breeding details of this cracking pigeon, who was raced on their widowhood system (cocks only) and has had every race this season.
The birds are exercised twice per day around the loft, flying for up to the hour.

The partnership have burst onto the Lanarkshire federation stage flying their first old bird season and just haven't stopped producing top level performances.
They have won 4 x 1st North sections in the last four weeks including 2 x 1st Open federation.
They have only raced a medium team of cocks throughout the season notching 6 x 1st section winners and 25 top 15 section cards to date.
Truly outstanding flying!
They presently sit top of the average board with more top 100 pigeons recorded than any other loft.
The race itself was again very erratic with the early birds hitting the right velocities but long periods between arrivals thereafter.
The race controller gave the birds the best chance and with the form lofts reporting good returns that tells you everything you need to know.
