Lanarkshire News - Wooler 1 - "Record Breaker"

In the 121 years of the Lanarkshire federation ,no one has ever recorded such aa result like we seen on Saturday 3rd August from Wooler .

The 2,800 federation birds and 13 other crates were liberated at 9am in a North West wind.

Great expectations for all who attended was that this wind would steady the convoy .

It was unknown to us at this time a new record would be set.

The return of Mac had arrived!

Paul Macaloney with the help of his wife Charlene had sent 33 youngsters from their newly formed team of Kittel/Macaloney lines. This race would set new records in the federation for Paul.

For the 77 mile race after  1hr and 42 minutes the unthinkable happened, twenty of their team arrived recording the first nineteen of federation Open on a velocity of 1336.

The other being 21st Open federation.

A performance never seen in the Lanarkshire federation !

I think most of the federation members must have had to look twice when the result came on line, Paul Macaloney first 19 in section and Open federation.

To record such a result in the Lanarkshire federation in my opinion is" truly remarkable" and only cements the foundation for further records for Paul Macaloney.

The name of GWP Macaloney is famous throughout the pigeon sport as record breakers.

They held the previous record of first fifteen in federation Open racing and best ever loft to fly into Lanarkshire federation.

This is the next step for Paul from such a  brilliant partnership that included his Grandfather George and his Dad William.

After a clearance sale and some years, the hunger to race again returned.

With his usual diligence and expertise he purchased new stock that he felt could become formidable Sprinters.

The 2025 Old bird season.

Paul raced a small team of late breds that performed brilliantly for him. They won the most prizes in the top 100 than any other fancier in the federation, sending an average of sixteen pigeons.

This year’s young bird team was put together with 37 youngsters being schooled in the usual Macaloney style.

33 were sent clocking 32 and as the saying goes The rest is History.

The winner of 1st sect,1st Open federation beating 2,836 birds .is a blue hen out of double Granddaughter of Miss Golden Blizzard when paired to some Golden Mac Lines.

It’s brilliant to see such a quality fancier return to the sport.

For the rest of us we just have to try harder !

Well done Paul and Charlene on a record breaking result.

Other excellent team performances were recorded by Barclay McCrindle Son & Donnachie winning the first 11 in the centre section and also James Green & Son winning the west section taking 14 in the top 15 of the section.

The race itself wasn’t an easy affair ,when attending clock check four hours after liberation most club members had only a fraction of their entry.

The weather was excellent for a good flight but for most it wasn’t a great race.
