SOLWAY NEWS

By Jimmy Graham

87/2309 It was Appleby again for the Solway Federation on Saturday 30th July. Liberated at 10.45am into a no-wind situation but once again the birds came home in large batches. I’m sure the full liberation came over the village splitting up and going in all directions.

Nith Valley members had a good race and took six of the Open ten positions. One bird into Dumfries S.C. made it seven. Brydekirk fancier S J Irving flew an outstanding race and took 1st, 3rd and 4th Open. Once again losses were few with most fanciers getting full returns. Neat week we’re off to Stainmore.

Clubs;

Springfield H.C. 11/297

Another outstanding race from the lofts of Mr & Mrs Gus Power & Allen. They timed ten birds in the Clubs leading twelve to take 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th and 12th, with velocities of between 1343 and 1304, great stuff! Their winner this week is a nice Blue Cock that’s bred through Clive Bryson’s ‘Dordon’ family. The second one is a ‘Red Fox’ & ‘Merccllis’ Cock, the third a white Cock bird of ‘Carmiel Cardon’ breeding and finally the fourth being bred from R V Graham stock. W F Van Nuil came in 5th doing 1325 and G Grant & Son (Loft 2) were 10th on 1309.

Lockerbie H.C. 6/163

Davy Robinson timed the winner here on 1316. Kenny Thomson came in next timing the next three doing 1314, 1303 and 1298.

Brydekirk H.C.  5/188

A drop of around twenty birds were flying around the loft of S J Irving ‘Junr’ and timing three he took 1st, 2nd, 3rd Club,  1st, 3rd, 4th Open doing 1377, 1376 and 1372. Scaife & Garner take 4th on 1255.

Well done ‘The Pipe-man’ J F McCarton, he timed three birds in the leading five to take 1st, 2nd and 4th doing 1327, 1326 and 1303, not bad from 288 birds! Hope you are keeping well old pal.R & M Seaton came 3rd doing 1312, R S R & R J Rome came next

Hoddam F.C.  8/232

Another good win for G Dalgliesh & Son, Steven. They have four birds in the leading six taking 1st, 4th, 5th and 6th (all Cocks) with velocities of between 1328 and 1298. Jimmy Dalgliesh is 2nd and 3rd doing 1324 and 1323. These birds were all timed in the same minute…...

Nith Valley 10/222

Winning for the second week in a row is A Crosbie on 1377. This one should top the Section for him; he also timed another to take 3rd Club. A Skachill also had a good race taking 2nd and 4th doing 1368 and 1358. Nith Valley members had a great race with nine birds in the leading ten in the West Section.

Just look at the Section result;

1st  A Crosbie

2nd A Skachill

3rd A Crosbie

4th A Skachill

5th  G McGauche

Annan Premier Club 3/46

Were down at Appleton on Saturday 30th July. Liberated at 10.00am into a light South wind. This was the Clubs first Young Bird race of the season and they had to work hard to cover the 119 miles into Annan. Billy Jamieson took the Red with his young Chec Hen bred from a half brother and sister mating ‘Busshart & Van Reet ‘. The Hen was doing a velocity of 1231. Secretary  S J Irving ‘Junr’ had the next two doing 1204 and 1138. Ewart Warwick came in 4th on 1118 and the winner Billy Jamieson was in again on 1092.

Thanks again to the Cumbria Federation.
