Appleton - June 2012
The Solway Federation (69/619) were down at Appleton on Saturday 17th June. Liberated at 10.45am into a light South-West wind. Appleton to Ecclefechan is around 122 miles and the leading first ten in the Federation made velocities of between 1280 and 1246. Losses were reported once again and as I’ve said many times before, they never return. Next week it’s the S.N.F.C. Maidstone race and at a distance of 310 miles to my loft it’s a big jump for the yearlings as Cheltenham is the furthest they’ve been so far, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Timing three good birds in this one is our race controller Raymond White; he takes 1st, 2nd and 4th Club, his winner being a two-year old Chec Hen which of course won the Federation as well with a velocity of 1280. His second bird takes 4th Open Fed doing 1260 and his third bird is also in the Fed taking 7th Open on 1255. Well done Raymond! Mr & Mrs Gus Power & Allen took 3rd Club and 6th Open on a velocity of 1258.

D.Nordon strikes Gold this week doing 1246 as well as taking 10th Open, followed by R.V.Graham who timed the next two doing 1243 and 1237.D.Norden is in again at 4th Club doing 1232.
Annan H.C. 12/80
1st, 2nd and 3rd goes to the master fliers of R.S.R.Rome & R.J.Rome. Robbie’s three birds were doing velocities of 1244, 1241.4 and 1241.2. Stevie Ferguson comes in 4th doing 1191.
Lockerbie H.C. 6/83
A good win here for Ewan Hind & Son. They timed the leading two into the Club as well as 3rd and 5th East Section, 3rd and 5th Open on velocities of 1262 and 1260. Their winner being a GB rung Blue Hen. G.A. & L.Firth are 3rd on 1236 and Kenny Thomson is 4th doing 1219.

Les Smith & Son did the business here timing a Mealy yearling cock to take 1st Club, 9th East Section, and 9th Open on a velocity of 1250. W.Gilmour is 2nd doing 1210.3, followed by Mr & Mrs J.Graham timing a four-year old Blue Pied Cock on 1210. G.Dalgliesh & Son take 4th doing 1197.

Another win for D.McDonald on 952, timing a yearling Blue Cock from stock bred by R.S.R.Rome & R.J.Rome of Annan. N.McCulloch & Son timed the next three with velocities of 947, 923 and 922.

The Club did well in the West Section taking a total of seven of the ten Section winners. Topping the list is A.Russel taking 1st and 3rd Club, plus 1st and 3rd West Section with velocities of 1150, 1141. W.J.Smith, who’s going well at the moment, takes 2nd and 8th Club, 2nd and 8th Section doing 1145 and 1133. R.Burgess takes 4th Club, 4th Open doing 1133. R.Stewart & J.Miller are 9th and 10th Section.

Jim Seaton takes this one on 1123 as well as 5th west Section. Jim’s timer is a three-year old Blue Cock. D.Turner takes 2nd Club, 6th Section on 1100. D.& R.Osbourne comes in 3rd Club, 7th West Section.

It’s another win for R.J.B.Renwick as well as 2nd Open in the Fed, his bird doing 1278. Rab timed a two-year old Blue Pd Cock, which had a wee bit to spare over J.M.Dalgliesh’s bird on a velocity of 1197. H.Dobie takes 3rd on 1174 and Scaife & Garner 4th doing 1173
