Cheltenham - May 2014
The Solway Federation (95/1405) was down at Cheltenham on Saturday 31st May. Liberated at 10.15am into a no wind day, the birds homed with velocities into the 1200s with this race being around 240 miles to most fanciers. The race however didn’t turn out as we expected and many birds had a night out from the loft. It took five different Clubs to work out the top ten Federation diplomas. The winner was way out on its own and was timed by Jim Ferguson of Eastriggs with a great velocity of 1251 and whose second bird took 4th Open doing 1235. R S R & R J Rome from Annan were 2nd on 1239 with another bird being 9th Open doing 1218. Angus Simmons of Annan has been flying in top form this season and comes in 3rd Open on 1237. We’re off to Lockerbie for the 5th Open position and this was taken by G A & L Firth doing a velocity of 1228. Springfield Club had Tommy Linden taking 6th and 7th doing 1228 and 1229. G W Campbell of Annan is 8th Open on 1222 and S J Irving Jnr (Loft 1) of Brydekirk is 10th on 1215.

Well done to George A & L Firth winning this one on a velocity of 1228, followed by Kenny Thomson with the next two doing 1186 and 1163. The winner comes in again on a velocity of 1159.
Springfield H.C. 7/130
Nice to see Tommy Lindon up front here with two birds taking 1st and 2nd on good velocities of 1228 and 1227.
Raymond White nips into 3rd position doing 1192 and W F Van Nuil takes 4th on 1190.
Annan H.C. 17/222
Timing two birds here are R S R Rome & R J Rome; they take 1st and 4th Club with velocities of 1239 and 1218.
A Simmons takes the 2nd spot doing 1237 and G W Campbell is 3rd on 1222.
Eastriggs H.C. 14/214
This was the best pigeon of the day and was timed by Jim Ferguson with a velocity of 1251. Jim also takes 2nd Club doing 1235.
J Martin is 3rd on 1201 and J Pollock is 4th on 1195.
Brydekirk H.C. 8/203
Once again Scott Irving Jnr (Loft 1) takes the first four Club positions doing 1215, 1210, 1204 and 1179.
Langholm H.C. 3/74
It’s a good win here for W Irving with a velocity of 1208, followed by R V Graham who takes the next seven positions with velocities of between 1200 to 1182.
Hoddam F.C. 9/143
Well done here to young John Gilmour who timed three good birds to take 1st, 3rd and 4th with velocities of 1192, 1161 and 1154.

It’s yet another good win here for Mr & Mrs Karl Gunther and Grandson they timed three good pigeons to take 1st, 2nd and 3rd Club with velocities of 1202.66, 1202.60 and 1192.
D Owen is 4th on 1155.

W J Smith takes this one on a velocity of 1177, followed by B Love taking 2nd on 112

Mr & Mrs K Guenther & Grandson take 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 7th with velocities of 1202, 1202, 1192 and 1131.
W J Smith takes 4th Section doing 1177. D Owen is 5th Section on 1155. T Richardson is 6th Section doing 1148 and B Love 8th Section with a velocity of 1129. D Owen is in again at 9th doing 1128 and finally in the 10th Section position is R A Brown doing 1127.

R & M Seaton take 1st, 2nd and 3rd here with velocities of 1453.1, 1453 and 1443, followed by S J Irving Jnr (Loft 2) doing 1423.
Bedhampton Race
S Ferguson takes this one on 1143 with W J Smith 2nd doing 1108.
E Hodgson & Sons are 3rd doing 1088 and R & M Seaton are 4th on 1088.
