SOLWAY NEWS

By Jimmy Graham

Newbury - June 2013

The Solway Federation (73/548) were down at Newbury on Saturday 8th June convoyed by the SNFC. The convoy of 3.320 birds were liberated at 7.00am into a light East wind. Newbury is a distance of 267 miles from my loft in Ecclefechan. The East wind was good for the Solway birds as they started to home in around five and a half hours later. Velocities were high into the 1300s with very few losses being reported. I would just like to say that the birds that did return were in a great condition and they even looked like they had never been away! Thanks to the convoyers and the SNFC.

Topping the Federation this week is Moffat fancier Mike Currie. He timed a great bird to win 1st Fed, 1st Club on a velocity of 1399. Michael is the furthest flier in the Federation. He flies twenty-seven miles further than the first loft in Scotland at Gretna and nineteen miles further than me in Ecclefechan. His winner is a two-year old Blue Bar Cock, very much fancied for this race, well done Michael!
