BURTON & SOUTH DERBYSHIRE FEDERATION.
Mr & Mrs Graham Evans take 1st & 2nd out of Truro.
Saturday June 14th saw the federation hold a race from Truro, originally we were looking at racing from Guernsey this year, but unfortunately the liberation site was closed. The chance came to have a race from Truro, convoyed by the Central Midlands federation; this race was optional and did not qualify to any federation averages, but it would payout prize money for the top ten birds.The 227birds entered by 28 members were liberated at 09-00 in a South West wind, and a quick race was on the cards.
Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Graham Evans of Castle Gresley on taking 1st & 2nd on 1799; 1797; the winner was a 4yo Pencil Wildemeersch cock a grandson of Porter & Richardson’s “Firecracker” . Runner up was a 3yo cheq Pied Wildemeersch x Buscheart hen; this hen was actually first home but was beaten on the trap by the pencil cock; well done Graham & Eleanor.

3rd was Ray & Jean Lees of the Lees & Miller loft also at Castle Gresley; they timed in a 3yo blue hen on 1785, her sire was a gift from Harold Abbott and the dam is a Lambrecht originating from the late Rob Horton of Tamworth. It’s great how pigeon racing throws up a story line, and this race was one of them occasions;

Ray Lees
taking 4th on 1773 was Ray Grimsdell of Stretton, Ray who’s approaching his 88th birthday has always been a force to be reckoned with, especially when it came to racing the channel, he loved racing in the NFC. Ray has not raced for a few seasons, as he and his late beloved wife Jean had health issues, sadly Jean passed away last August.
