BURTON & SOUTH DERBYSHIRE FEDERATION.

Kev Matthews of Holbrook takes 1st & 2nd fed from Marlborough.

What a difference a week makes, Saturday September 7th saw the fed at Blandford for the fed race and 2024 Futurity race, weather was fit for a lib at Blandford early on, but the weather on the line of flight and here in Burton was terrible all day, low cloud, poor visibility and rain prevented a liberation, and with the forecast of heavy thundery showers for the following day, the fed decided (wisely) to bring the birds back home. It was a difficult weekend for the fed officials, with weather forecasts varying not just daily but hourly. Anyway no harm done and thanks to Alys for bringing the birds back to the clubs, it was a long day for her.

The following weekend was different again, blue skies and sunshine, the fed made the decision to take the futurity birds to Blandford, these were liberated at 08-40 in a light S.S.W. wind, then Alys made her way back to Marlborough for the fed race, and after giving the birds time to settle and drink, they were liberated at 12-25 in a light S.W. wind.

49 Members sent 722 birds to Marlborough, and congratulations to Kev Matthews of Holbrook on taking 1st & 2nd fed on 1732; 1730.2; the fed topper a blue Jos Cools cock, his sire off a grandson of “Balthazar” x “Super Cools Lady”, his dam a granddaughter of “Cheri Ami” x “Zoon Chipring”.

Writing this article and I’ve been told the final race of the young bird season planned for September 21st from Weymouth has been cancelled due to a poor weather forecast. Thunderstorms have been forecast on and off the whole weekend, so a wise move. It was also supposed to be the 2024 Breeder Buyer race this weekend too, so a decision has to be made regarding how we go on about rescheduling it?
