Derby Notes.

Saturday 18th April saw the opening race of the 2026 season for the Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society, Holbrook Miners Welfare & Etwall & District Flying Club who fly in the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation. The pigeons were liberated at Cheltenham at 11-25 in a west north west wind. The now named Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society formally ( Osmaston Park Homing Society ) had 15 members sending 229 birds. Putting up an excellent performance getting the first pigeons in to Derby was the Oakwood loft of Mr & Mrs P Todd ( Paul & Lynda ) getting the first podium finish of the season with their pigeons being well clear of the field. Their winner was a yearling red hen doing 1646 with their next two pigeons a 4 year old cheq pied hen and a yearling blue hen both doing 1645.In fourth were Alan & Liz Houldsworth with a yearling blue hen doing 1599.

In Holbrook Miners Welfare 8 members sent 206 pigeons with Glyn  Glenda Stone who had kept the flying name as Mick Stone, his late father, taking three of the first four positions doing 1632,1631 & 1592.Taking third was Pete Schofield doing 1626.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 7 members sent 150 birds with Steve Billings taking the red card with a 5 year old cheq cock doing 1440 with A.Peach & Son taking the next three positions with a yearling blue cock and a  yearling mealy cock both doing 1435 followed by a two year old blue hen doing 1434.  There was a £50 special and a bottle of champagne for the winner. Saturday April 25th and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Bath a distance of 112 miles into Derby. The pigeons were liberated at 11-40 in a variable wind . 8 members sent 209 birds in Holbrook Miners Welfare and leading the way with their first pigeon being well clear was Glyn & Glenda Stone with their first pigeon doing 1561 followed by their second pigeon doing 1523 to take fourth. In second was Pete Schofield doing 1544 followed by John Dowd taking third doing 1528.

In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 17 members sent 226 birds with the Little Eaton loft of S & H W Hall ( Stan ) taking the red card with a yearling b/w/f hen doing 1543 followed by Alan & Liz Houldsworth with a yearling b/ch hen doing 1542 to take second. In third were last week’s winners Paul & Lynda Todd with a yearling b/w/f hen doing 1541 with Dave Waddington in fourth with a two year old blue cock doing1538.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 7 members sent 151 birds and opening his account for the season with a yearling blue cock doing 1485 was Kevin Southall followed by a yearling cheq cock doing 1480 to take third. In second with a yearling b/pied hen doing 1483 were Peter & Shirley Harrison with A.Peach & Son taking fourth with a five year old cheq hen doing 1462.

Saturday May 2nd and it was the third race of the season for the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation who were at Marlborough a distance of 105 miles into Derby. The pigeons were liberated at 10-55 in a South, South East wind. In Holbrook Miners Welfare Homing Society 10 members sent 270 birds with the continued dominance of the in form loft Glynn & Glenda Stone getting their hat trick of wins with velocities of 1675,1674 & 1660 to get a podium finish. In fourth were E & A Gibson doing 1651.

In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 16 members sent 222 birds and getting back to back wins was the Little Eaton Loft of S & H W Hall. ( Stan ) with a three year old blue cock doing 1661 followed by Mick Stone with a yearling dk.ch hen doing 1659.In third with a three year old blue cock doing 1654.7 was Dave Waddington followed by Mr & Mrs P Todd ( Paul & Lynda ) with a yearling mealy pied cock doing 1654.3.

This was the date for their yearling gold ring race with Mick Stone taking the top two positions winning £40 & £35 respectively. In third was Paul & Lynda Todd winning £30 with S & H W Hall in fourth winning £25 with smaller amounts won by the other members.

Etwall & District Flying Club had 6 members sending 128 birds with the red card going to A. Peach & Son with a three year old blue hen doing 1627 followed by Steve Billings with a two year old blue cock doing 1603 to take second. In third with a yearling blue cock doing 1576 was last week's winner Kevin Southall followed by Peter & Shirley Harrison with a yearling blue hen doing 1573.

Saturday May 09th and this week the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Frome a distance of 128 miles into Derby. The pigeons were liberated at 09-40 in an east north east wind. Holbrook Miners Welfare had 7 members sending 155 birds with Pete Schofield getting the red card doing 1432 with his winner being 21 yards clear of the next pigeon. Taking the next three positions was John Dowd with velocities of 1411,1410 & 1390.

In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 16 members sent 200 pigeons with the man & wife partnership Mr & Mrs P.Todd taking three of the first four positions. Their winner was a 4 year old cheq hen who is no stranger to getting the red card doing 1430.Their next two pigeons were a yearling blue hen doing 1422.4 and a yearling Mealy cock doing 1422.2 to take third & fourth. In second with a three year old cheq cock doing 1424 was Dave Waddington.

It was also the first of their show races with Dave Waddngton getting the winner doing 1424 followed by Alan & Liz Houldsworth doing 1394.In third was Mick Stone doing 1331 with Hall & Torry taking fourth doing 1312. In fifth were Mick Willis & Family doing 1306 with Stewart Wainwright in sixth doing 1292 .Shenton Brothers were next taking seventh position doing 1231 then finally Paul Adams doing 905 with a total payout of £100. 

In Etwall & District Flying Club 6 members sent 112 birds with Mick Leszczyszak taking the honours with a  yearling ch/wf hen doing 1376 followed by A.Peach & Son in second with a yearling blue cock doing 1368.3. In third & fourth with a yearling b/pied cock and a yearling cheq hen doing 1368.3 & 1368 was Kevin Southall.

Saturday May 16th and this week's race was from Yeovil a distance of 150 miles into Derby. The pigeons were liberated at 09-55 in a west south west wind. Getting a podium finish in Etwall & District Flying Club where 7 members sent 106 birds was club secretary Alan Peach who flies as A.Peach & Son. His winner was well clear of the pack which was a yearling blue hen doing 1599 followed by a three year old blue hen doing 1522 then a two year old grizzle cock doing 1464.In fourth was Steve Billings with a four year old blue cock doing 1445.

In Holbrook Miners Welfare 10 members sent 303 birds with the top two places going to Brian & Sue Stone doing 1597 & 1581.In third was Tony Mather & Steve Haywood doing 1565 with Fred Turner in fourth doing 1562.

In Chaddesden Jubilee Homing Society 16 members sent 153 birds with the red card going to Brailsford & Doyle with a two year old blue hen doing 1539 with Mr & Mrs P Todd ( Paul & Lynda ) in second with their good four year old cheq hen doing 1536. 097.In third was Dave Waddington with a yearling cheq pied cock doing 1536.024 with S & H W Hall in fourth with a three year old cheq cock doing 1530.
