Stretton Flying Club 2025 Prize presentation.
First of all, apologies for not submitting this report earlier, my error.
Stretton Flying Club held their 2025 Prize presentation night at their HQ the Stretton Bowls Club on Saturday January 31st 2026.
Guests for the evening were our Fed Secretary and Convoyer Alys Evans, accompanied by her daughter Mia.
The club paid out £39-66 per race this year, with total prize money of £745-79, the club payout on the first five in each race, with each loft only allowed one money prize, but they do receive prize cards earned in each race.
First to be called up was Ray Grimsdell, Ray a founder member of the Federation was enticed back into racing by Alan Brassington, and thanks to Ron Dakin who trained the birds for Ray; he got back into enjoying the racing and social side of our sport. Ray was well renowned for his great performances over the channel at club; federation and NFC level; so it was no surprise when he rolled back the years in taking 1st; 4th and 5th in the Truro race winning £25-20 and the Longest OB race trophy.

Next up was the ever popular Ron Dakin. Ron won 1 x 2nd; 2 x 3rd; 5 x 4th and 3 x 5th; winning £67-44 prize money add to this £12-60 Ron won in the Truro race, total winnings of £80.04. The highlight of the year for Ron was taking 3rd and 5th in the federation Futurity race winning £1165-92.

Next up was our hard working club chairman Phil Whetton, Phil won 2 x 1st; 2 x 2nd; 3 x 3rd; 4 x 4th and 3 x 5th; winning a total of £103-14 prize money. Phil also won the clubs YB Gold ring winning £60-00 and a further £16-80 in the Truro race, total winnings of £179-94; fittingly Phil also won the Chairmans Cup for winning the penultimate YB race. Phil also won 1st fed in the final YB race of the season out of Hullavington, well done Phil.

Next up was Pete Cox; Pete won 1 x 1st; 3 x 2nd; 5 x 3rd; 3 x 4th and 2 x 5th; winning total prize money of £107-10.

Next up being third top prize winner for the season was Daniel Kurylo, Dan had a great season winning 4 x 1st; 4 x 2nd; 2 x 4th and 4 x 5th; winning total prize money of £115-06. Dan also won £24-00 in the YB Gold ring race and £21-00 in the Truro race where he was runner up; total winnings £160.06. Dan also won the Pigeon of the Year trophy with his blue Leo Hereman cock 23 A 95482, he won out of Cheltenham; Marlborough and Blandford, and was also runner up out of Blandford and Weymouth before being lost in action, so sad to lose a pigeon like that.

Runner up top prize winner for 2025 was the evergreen Alan Brassington, Alan won 4 x 1st; 4 x 2nd; 4 x 3rd; 3 x 4th and 3 x 5th winning £148-76 prize money. Alan also won £36-00 for runner up in the YB Gold ring race and £8-40 out of Truro, giving total winnings of £193-16, well done Alan.

Top prize winners of 2025 was Phil & Jack Bourke, they won 8 x 1st; 5 x 2nd; 4 x 3rd; and 2 x 4th, total prize money of £188-42. They also won 2 x 1st fed with their YB’s out of Cheltenham and Hullavington, and “Stevie G” their young grizzle cock out of “Mo” and a sister to Tony and Lee Painters “ Heartbreaker” was YB of the year in the federation. Phil and Jack won the following club trophies; Combined Average; Inland OB Average; Lowest winning velocity; Combined Inland Average; Old bird points; Inland OB Points, Yearling winning most points; Combined points; 2 bird points; Young bird average; Young Bird points; and a pot of Goddard’s Silver Polish. Well done Phil and Jack; another excellent season.

Dave Johnston and Pete Wightman also collected there well earnt Honorariums; and Alys and Mia were then presented with a gift bag of Chocolate surprises.
