BURTON & SOUTH DERBYSHIRE FEDERATION.

No surprises as Rugeley lofts come out on top out of Frome in an East wind.  C T Leadbeater & Sons taking 1st & 2nd Fed.

Saturday August 16th saw 52 members from 8 clubs send 855 birds to Frome in Somerset. Thankfully a lot of the heat from the midweek dissipated, leaving a much more comfortable day for the birds. The weather at the Lib site was good, but there was a lot of low cloud the nearer to home we got. Alys was very patient as there were lots of liberations at Cheltenham heading to the North West, and she wanted to ensure we avoided these.  Alys finally cut the strings at 11-55 in an East North East wind, and it turned out a very pleasant afternoon for the bird’s journey home. As seems to be the norm these days, a few birds arrived home with signs of hawk/falcon damage. This may also be the reason why some birds were arriving home into the evening, the lads I spoke to say the later arrivals were all coming bang on line out the south? Overall, returns were good with a fair amount of missing birds at nightfall arriving next morning.

No surprises on the fed result with the Rugeley lads in the Hill Ridware club taking advantage of the easterly wind taking the top seven in the federation. Congratulations to C T Leadbeater & Sons on taking 1st & 2nd fed on 1395 with a cheq cock and 1387 with a cheq wf cock.  The fed topper Sire is a Gaby Vandenabeele x Flanders Collection Hereman; and his dam is out of the Eijerkamp “Justus” line when again paired to a Flanders collection Hereman. The runner up; his sire is out of a direct son of the Van Den Bulck “Mr Specialized” when paired to one out of the  “Golden Lady II” line; and his dam is a direct daughter of the Van den Bulck “Banksy”. Well done Brian.
