Hill Ridware lofts dominate out of Weymouth (4) with Mark Nesbitt taking 1-2-3.

Saturday July 13th saw the last race of the 2024 Old bird season; and it turned out to be a fitting finale for the Hill Ridware; and Mark Nesbitt in particular.                                                                                                  

58 Members entered 952 birds which were liberated by Alys at 11-05 in light winds, mainly west for the first half of their journey home, but turning West North West for the latter.                                                                

Congratulations to Mark Nesbitt of Hill Ridware who had yet another fantastic race taking 1st; 2nd; 3rd; 6th; 7th; and 10th fed; this was Mark’s seventh Fed win of 2024 out of the twelve races, and Hill Ridware have achieved 9 x 1st fed.

Mark had the three great yearling Lambrecht x Leo Hereman sisters arrive together, the fed topper on 1476 was “D51”; she was followed by “D57” on 1475.8; and “05” on 1475.3; all these three hens have topped the fed this season. Their sire is a son of Adam Wealthall’s prolific Lambrecht “Snowball” and their dam is Mark’s top Hereman hen; she won 4 x 1st fed and was pigeon of the year in our fed 3 years on the trot.  

6th fed on 1434 was “04” this good yearling dark cock is yet another off the son of “Snowball”; “04” has a 1st & 2nd fed in his credit column this season.

7th on 1433 was a yearling blue cock; he is a brother to “04”. 

10th on 1427 was a yearling dark cock off good friend Nathan Foulkes of Stoke on Trent; this cock won Hullavington 3 weeks previous.

Anthony Probert flying his Heremans on the natural was 4th; 5th; and 9th fed on 1467; 1464; 1429; first home was a yearling dark hen; her sire is out of a son of “Man O’Chester” when paired to “Dark Delilah”; this is one of the top pairings at Premier stud. Her dam is a Stefaan Lambrecht; she’s a grand daughter of “Lincia” when paired to his sister. Next was a 2yo dark cheq cock that’s out of a son of “The Blackpool Cock” when paired to a daughter of “Supersonic Mike” x “Dark Secret”. The Blackpool Cock also bred Anthony’s 2nd open MNFC Guernsey race in 2022.

Third home for Ant was his good 3yo blue cock who topped our fed in 2022. He’s a grandson of “Houdini” who’s a son of “Wild Wind”’ His dam is out of a son of “Unbreakable Bolt” when paired to “Dark Sensation” she’s a daughter of “Man O’Chester”.  

Completing the top ten was Mr & Mrs Jim Whitehouse & Sons; Jim took 8th fed on 1430 with a yearling Johan den Hartog blue hen out of the “Jef” line. This hen was bred by Barry Jones from stock Jim and Barry obtained from Paul Beaumont and Ray Lunt.

The first five in the club and the fed were around 5 minutes clear of the next batch to hit Rugeley.

Starting at Stretton, 6 sent 97 and Phil Bourke signed off in fine style taking 1st; 2nd; and 4th on 1396; 1374; 1354.

The winner for the second week running was the good 3yo cheq cock “Mo’s Bro” he is now a winner of 6 x 1st

Runner up was a yearling cheq cock; his sire is “Bossman” bred by Flanders; this Hereman Cuester is from the lines of “Di Caprio” and “Jackpot”. His dam was purchased at the M/M K Lycett bereavement sale; she was bred by the Gordon Bros of Northern Ireland; she’s a Van den Bulck; a grand daughter of ace breeder  “Dream Rode”.                         

4th club was a yearling cheq hen; she’s a daughter of “Mo’s Bro”.

3rd club on 1366 was Jim Parker & Son, they timed in their good 3yo Blue wf  Hereman cock “06”; he’s a brother to Jim’s top racer “23”; these Heremans originate from Wall; Lunt and Green stock.

Up at Holbrook, 8 sent 183 and D & A Swift took the top two positions on 1400; 1398; both yearling Van den Bulcks; both great grand children of “Broere Goede Roede”; the winner a blue cock; runner up a blue hen. Russ Bailey was 3rd & 4th on 1396; 1395; first over the pad a yearling cock off Woodroffe Bros stock; closely followed by a 2yo cock off Rich Wolverson x M/M K Lycett stock.

At Swadlincote Town, 13 sent 214 and Pete Brown won a tight finish; taking top spot on 1410.6 with a yearling NEHU rung cheq hen from Gary Thompson of Wingate up in County Durham. She’s off a son of their Golden Couple when paired onto a hen from the Taylor Bros of Newbiggin in Northumberland. The Golden Couple are responsible for multiple Fed Winners, and birds gaining prominent positions in the Up North Combine. Their children and grandchildren are put to stock, and these have gone on to breed fed winners too. This hen took 20th fed and was the only bird outside of Hill Ridware to gain a fed card.

Mr & Mrs Lee Clamp & Sons keep up their good recent form taking 2nd & 4th club on 1410.4; 1400.1; the first a yearling Blue pied Stefaan Lambrecht hen off stock obtained from James Horne; followed by a 2yo Dark cheq hen off Ann Smith of Ashbourne, this hen has also had a 1st & 2nd this season.

Mr & Mrs Alan Stretton were 3rd club on 1400.9 with a 2yo blue cock; his sire a son of Alan’s best Louis Thijs Cock; his dam a Wall’ Lunt & Green from Geoff Farmer of Atherstone.

Into Derby now; at Osmaston Park, 12 sent 159 and Dave Waddington follows up the previous weeks fed topping exploit, by taking the top three on 1393; 1380.1; 1380.0; the winner a 4yo dark cheq cock winning for the second time this season. He was followed by a yearling cheq cock and a 2yo cheq cock; all these cocks come off “The Bat” bloodline; he was a brilliant Soontjen cock Dave had from Louella stud many years ago.                                                                                                                      
4th club on 1375 was Stan Hall with a yearling cheq cock off Dave Stone stock.

At Winshill, 5 sent 52 and Debbie Fearn was 1st; 2nd; and 4th; the winner on 1377 was the yearling cheq cock that won out of Hullavington; his sire “Hideaway” x Honeysuckle Jansenne; his dam off Tony & Lee Painter x “Sweetie” .   

Runner up on 1366 was another yearling cheq cock; this cock won out of Frome (2); his sire once again the “Hideaway” x Honeysuckle Jansenne; his dam the good Stefaan Lambrecht.                                                                                             

4th club on 1353 was a yearling Cheq pied cock; his sire a full brother to Debbie’s Mosaic Pied hen that was 1st fed Carentan in 2019; his dam a multiple prize winner from over the channel; she’s a daughter of “Hideaway” x Davis, Wright & Sons “31616”.  

3rd club on 1357 was Jim Parker & Son with their top blue wf Hereman cock “23”; he’s a winner of 13 x 1st and 2 x 1st fed.

Finally, at Etwall, 6 sent 92 and Secretary Alan Peach took the top four on 1337; 1326; 1309; 1308; the winner a Jansenne; followed by one bred off a bird from Mr & Mrs Graham Evans; then one off a bird bred by Ray Lees; and finally a Delbar.
