A cracking race out of Salisbury sees Mark Nesbitt take top seven.
Saturday May 10th saw our first visit to the Wiltshire city of Salisbury. It was another cracking day; we’ve been blessed so far this season with four good race days.
68 Members from 8 clubs sent 1403 birds which were liberated by Alys at 09-50 in an East wind, turning ESE en route.
Congratulations to Mark Nesbitt of Hill Ridware on taking the top seven positions in the fed. 1st fed on 1566.8 was a yearling Dark hen, her sire is a Leo Hereman off “Tommy”; her dam a grand daughter of Adam Wealthall’s top Lambrecht “Snowball”. 2nd fed on 1566.0 was a yearling Grizzle hen off Stuart Innet, she was 3rd club; 8th fed the week previous. 3rd fed on 1565 was a yearling blue Hereman hen, her sister topped the Worcester Fed two weeks previous. 4th fed on 1564 was a yearling Cheq Hereman hen off Champion “Isla” lines, she was 5th club; 10th fed the week previous. 5th fed on 1544 was a 2yo Cheq cock off a grandson of “Isla” x Bill North lines. 6th fed on 1532 was a yearling dark cock; he’s a son of “64” the 3yo cock that topped our fed 4 x times. “64” is out of a son of “Isla” when paired to a daughter of Adam Wealthall’s “Snowball”. 7th fed on 1530 was a 2yo blue Hereman cock out of “Young Opal” when paired to “196” she’s a winner of 3 x 1st fed.

8th fed on 1528.4 was Neil Harvey of Overseal, flying in Swadlincote Town. Neil’s first timer was a yearling mealy cock out of James Parker’s JPS lofts Marcel Sangers Van den Bulck “Greipel”; when paired to a Chris Vasey x Gary Cox Cuester. This was an excellent performance by this Mealy cock in the East wind, flying to the South East of our Federation, and was the only bird in the Federation top 20 NOT flying into Rugeley.

9th fed on 1528.4 was Anthony Probert of Hill Ridware with a 3yo Blue cock.
Mark Nesbitt was back again, taking 10th fed on 1523 with a yearling cheq hen, same way bred as the Fed topper.
Around the clubs,
Starting at Stretton, 8 sent 186 and Phil and Jack Bourke were 1st & 2nd on 1499.7; 1499.2; a lot of credit must go to young Jack as he looks after the hens, whilst Dad Phil manages the cocks. Jack was buzzing when he came down the club, making sure the members all knew his hens had beat the cocks by 5 minutes. 1st club was a 2yo cheq hen; she’s a daughter of “Mo’s Bro” the Soontjen x Vandenabeele cock who’s a winner of 6 x 1st; her dam is off the M/M K Lycett Vandenabeeles.

Runner up was a 2yo Cheq pied hen bred by Excelsior Stud; she’s direct off “Excelsior Best Kittel”; he’s direct from 1st National Ace KBDB “Best Kittel”. This Cheq pied hen was 3rd club the week previous.
3rd & 4th club on 1470.5; 1470.2 was Pete Cox; the first a 2yo pied cock out of “Best Kittel” lines from Ann Smith of Ashbourne. He was followed by a 2yo Blue cock, he’s a “Best Kittel” x van Den Bulck; again from Ann Smith stock.
Up at Holbrook, 9 sent 191 and Russ Bailey had a great day taking the top four. His first three were all off his No 1 stock cock from Mr & Mrs K Lycett. The winner on 1490 a 3yo blue cock off M/M Lycett x Richard Wolverson stock. Runner up on 1489 was a 2yo hen off M/M Lycett x Tom Burkhill stock; 3rd on 1472.6 a yearling hen off M/M Lycett x Mark Williamson stock; and 4th club on 1472.6 another yearling hen, this one off Glenda & Glyn Stone.

At Winshill, 8 sent 142 and Melv Willis was 1st & 2nd on 1476; 1443; the winner a 2yo Blue pied hen was bred by Debbie Fearn and purchased in a breeder Buyer. She’s off “Nib Nob” x a Vandenabeele from Davis, Wright & Sons. Runner up was a 2yo cheq pied Wildie x Staf Van Reet hen.

Jim Parker was 3rd on 1435 with a 3yo Blue WF Hereman cock.
4th on 1427 was Liam Clamp with a yearling Dark Cheq cock.
At Swadlincote Town, 14 sent 384 and Neil Harvey took the top two spots on 1528; 1508; with a half brother and half sister. The winner a yearling mealy cock off James Parker’s Marcel Sangers “Greipel” x Cuester. Runner up a 2yo Blue wf hen; she’s off the same cock as the winner, and again paired to a Cuester; the Cuesters off stock from Chris Vasey and Gary Cox.
3rd & 4th on 1500; 1499; were Mr & Mrs Lee Clamp & Sons; both 2yo blue hens, grand daughters of Ray & Darren Hunt’s Van den Bulck “Old Soupster”.
At Osmaston Park, 14 sent 169 and S & H W Hall took top spot on 1482; Stan timing in a 2yo blue cock; ¾ Van den Bulck x ¼ “Pit Bull”. Mick Stone was runner up on 1469 with a yearling blue Eric Ceuleman cock. John & Steve Hicks were 3rd on 1451 with a 2yo blue pied cock, and Dave Waddington was 4th on 1434 with a 3yo cheq cock out of his Alan Brassington x The Bat lines.

At Hill Ridware, 5 sent 139 and the leading birds all appear in the fed report above.
At Etwall, 7 sent 132 and Secretary Alan Peach is having it all his way at the moment, for the fourth week running he takes the top four. The winner on 1455 was bred off a bird from Gary Smith of Nuneaton; runner up on 1433 was a Roland Jansenne; 3rd on 1432.7 was one off Cannock Wood’s Bill Dickenson stock; and 4th on 1432.0 was a Jansenne.
At Castle Gresley; 3 sent 60 and Ray & Jean Lees took top spot 0n 1444, M/M Graham Evans 2nd on 1430; and Keith Burton was 3rd & 4th on 1428; 1424.
