2 mins 50 seconds covered the first 40 birds in the fed. I always like to look at number of yearlings on fed sheet and there was 19 of the 40 this week which is the most so far this year. I must admit I did not expect that with the head wind, but a good yearling is worth so much.

In my own loft

I decided to start a few hens training this week to get into the Monmouth race. They haven’t had much time out of the loft but came from training well. The only issue is I was taking Cocks training as well and although I gapped the lib time, I have no one at home to separate so they saw far too much of each other this week. This showed in the speed on Saturday.

The North wind was a test for them as I think lacking a little in fitness. I’ve ended up with just one of my team missing, though typically was one I liked. But a good fancier said to me once, only worry about ones you have in the loft.

I will tweak a few bits this week in the hope that I can get a little closer to the leading birds, our club 2 birds are approaching, and these are always a good bit of fun and a chance to win some money, so I need to get closer.

Fanciers of the past

I thought I’d share some memories of people who have influenced me in my Pigeon Racing journey.

I will start with Frank Duncan (pictured), who was like a second father to me. He was a kind gentleman who took me under his wing.

The Late Frank Duncan

He raced a small team of widowhood cocks (10 in total) that were all multi performers/winners. Some lovely Blues. They were kept spotless and did everything Frank asked of them in the loft and in racing. I wish I’d asked more on the widowhood system as no one in my club then was racing it.

Even when Frank gave up pigeons, he came down to see me most Sunday evenings for a pint and catch up, usually pigeons were high on conversation topic. How I miss these chats. I can’t believe it is 10 years this year since he passed away.

If anyone else would like a multi performance bird in fed or other racing highlighting, please get in touch.
