In my own loft
I thought I’d just update where I’m up to in my own loft. Back in 2020 I cut down my set up and moved into my own garden. I now have a 14x6 foot set up for all my birds, stock (which I shouldn’t have really), Cocks (that fly to 4-foot section) and young birds. I’m proud so far how done to this small set up even managing to top the fed in 2022.
It has been a tough start to the 2025 season as right after Blackpool show I was placed in a 10km bird flu zone, this meant no training or racing. I must admit I let my head drop and never paired birds in fear of having too many birds for my set up. I remained in the zone until 16th April a total of 87 days. I missed last week’s race but sent this week with not enough work or training but happy to get 8/8 birds’ home so something to work on for the upcoming season. Thank you to friends in the club, especially Andrew Lawley for getting me going again. Also, Mark Pass has really helped so cheers Mark. Also, Neil Andrews who I chat to on Whatsapp most nights, I didn’t fully listen to him though as let my head drop. Well done to Neill on taking the first 3 in his Fed in opening race.
Let’s hope I have some positive insights from in my loft over the season.
Birds of the past
For those who don’t know me, I enjoy analysing results and looking at multi performance birds. I’d love to highlight these birds over the season. I reached out to Charlie Millward of the J, I & C. Millward as I know they have had many top performance birds. The one in the Photo is the ’11 Hen’ a winner of 6x1st Feds with 1430 to 2294 birds competing. 6x1st in club is amazing but in the fed is class, I can’t imagine there are many with those performances. The ’11 Hen’ only raced for 3 years. She was JP Geveart. Her father has bred over 20x1st Federation winners. Her three sisters all topped the Wrexham Fed multiple times. As well as a great racer the ’11 Hen’ was double grandmother to 1st NRCC Thurso. A class bloodline raced by a great partnership as can be seen by fact they topped fed this week.
Another top bird of they have in the photo, the blue cock has scored in the top five of the fed five times, including 2x1st.
Thanks for the information, Charlie and if anyone else would like a multi performance bird in fed or other racing please get in touch.
