Lanarkshire News - Alnwick Race 28/06/25
It was light relief after last week’s gruelling race to fall back to a 90 miles race from Alnwick in Northumberland.
The race controller ha to hold the convoy till later in the morning due to a band of low lying cloud and rain.
This moved on in the very fresh west, south west wind and the text came through to inform members the convoy of 1535 federation birds and 9 other crates were liberated at 10 45am.
As stated, it was a very fresh wind and from the west so you would think the lofts in the east would be favourite ,with the race point being on the North east coast line of England.
But not the case as the west section dominated the top of the leader board.
The winner was clocked after 2hrs 23 minutes for a distance of 94 miles ,recording a winning velocity of 1153ypm.
A real working velocity in a very fresh head wind.
This week’s winners are the top performance loft of James and Gary Green of Burnbank club.
Those that follow Lanarkshire news will know that this loft have been performing brilliantly and this is their third 1st Open federation of this season.
I contacted Gary to congratulate them and get some information on this week’s winner.
The 3yr old hen is a granddaughter of their best ever breeders combined together .She is a very consistent racer previously winning 3rd section ,9th Open federation ,Alnwick two weeks ago, 12th sect,99th Open federation, Leicester 1481 birds.6th section ,6th Open federation 1,307 as a yearling.
As a YB was 24th section,97th Open 1610 birds and 3rd section 36th Open federation 1924 birds .
As you can see, she has a cracking record with this the icing on the cake.
Her Sire is the tame cock ,the last son of Mr Green original Wily Jacobs Belgium 2009.He bred winners every year paired to a GWP Macaloney hen who they named Littlee Ceasar .She is a daughter of Ceasar x 772 .Famous breeding pair at GWP Macaloneys.
Her Dam is a daughter of the double Lanarkshire federation winning hen their No 1 breeding hen .She was raced and put to stock as she has all the attributes of a breeding hen.
This pair are turning into a super pair this year alone they have bred 1st Open federation,2nd Open federation,3rd Open federation beaten by loft mates. And also 9th Open federation .
This week’s winner was reported twice last season from Gretna in the borders at the same loft ,obviously refusing to run the gauntlet of raptors in the hills.
How many would have kept faith in this pigeon if it was theirs!
She was boxed up in a nest box this week as she was pairing to another hen ,so she was kept away. The birds were trained from Carnwath around 18 miles back to her loft in Hamilton.
She is a showy hen and was strutting her stuff to Gary when he entered.
This appears to be the catalyst for such a brilliant win.
As you can see she was in super condition, cracking looking and performance racing pigeon.
Well done to James and Gary who are up with the best performance lofts in Lanarkshire federation for a good number of years.
It’s good to see that 76 yr old Gordon Orr of Eaglesham still flying a good pigeon, winning Blantyre club this week.
