Lanarkshire News - Pre Season Report
Hello to all readers of Lanarkshire news, the racing season is just around the corner.
This year again the members voted to continue to race from the east side of the country starting at Wooler, Northumberland and finishing at Brighton, East Sussex.
It will be a 19 race programme including 13 old bird races and 6 Yb races.
The members voted on the status quo with the exception of Thirsk which was swapped this year for Wetherby due to costing increase.
This season will see over 260 members competing for some brilliant trophies and prizes in what is still the biggest federation in the land!.
Competition is fierce, with some Champion names in our ranks! It will be a very interesting season to see who will be crowned federation Champion.
Federation News-The federation is hoping to have the transporter available for training before the first old bird race and also the YB racing. Details of this will be provided by federation secretary and hopefully be supported by members. A quality service at a very competitive price.
The federation is in very good standing with a number of other organisation wishing to convoy with us after 200 mile stage. This makes sense for everyone involved and I wish them all the best for their season.
Lanarkshire will continue to seek to be the forerunner in our sport and provide excellent competition for its members.
One of the units has been renewed for the season and with two Geraldy lorry's and a trailer, adequate space is available for those that wish to compete.
This year we have 46 associate members flying with the federation, who will be happy in the knowledge that their space is always available for them to race, week in week out!
There will be a top 15 section result available for these associate members.
This year our Open pool races will be Billericay(354 miles) and Brighton(392 miles) with central marking at Uddingston and Chryston clubs. Time and dates will be available in members annual booklet.
The birdage for these races will be £1.50 per bird, excellent price for members from those distances.
It would be great to see an amalgamation result for all competing, bringing healthy competition to all from these events. What a buzz this will be winning such an event.
Who doesn't wish such competition!
The federation is running a Gold Ring Race from Wetherby YB race on 5th September, North ,West, Centre, Glasgow. £10 per ring with a maximum of 10 rings per loft. All rings must be registered with federation secretary by 1st June 2026.One race, One ring, One Champion!
Like most, at this time of the year, fanciers are trying to get the YBs out the nest, before getting their old birds into a training schedule as we approach the starting date of 25th April.
Reports again of fanciers pigeons running the gauntlet from birds of prey. This time of year it is sparrowhawk hen who is particularly bad, with many reporting losses and injuries to their birds.
Hopefully we can get some decent weather to exercise the birds to get them into some sort of condition for the first race.
