SOLWAY NEWS

By Jimmy Graham

The Solway Federation (84/759) was brought back to Shap on Saturday 2nd June 2012. Liberated at 4.00pm into a light south wind, the birds made good use of it and romped home with velocities high into the 1500s. The birds were high in the sky and coming in fast. I myself (Mr & Mrs J Graham) had a great race timing seven birds to take 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th Club on velocities of 1580, 1579, 1564 and 1557.I also took 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th East Section and 1st, 2nd, 4th, 8th Open from 759 birds. I know it’s only forty-six miles but a race is a race after all and someone has to win. Two good birds were timed in Dumfries for D.Callander and Mr & Mrs Karl Guenther.

Clubs

Hoddam F.C.   8/95

Things went well for the lofts of Mr & Mrs J Graham this week. I took 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Club. My winner this week on a velocity of 1580 is a Sootjen Cock bred by my brother Dennis down in Gretna from Frank Sheader stock. He’s a three-year old Chec Cock having won many prizes over the years. My second bird doing 1579 is a two-year old Mealy Hen; she already has a 1st Club diploma. The 3rd on 1564 is a four-year old Blue Cock that’s won four firsts and has topped the Fed. The 4th is a Dark Chec two-year old Hen doing 1557.
