67/1529 The first Young Bird race of the season was flown from Appleby on Saturday 23rd July. Liberated at 11.00am into a light North-West wind the birds made short work of it and homed one hour later into Ecclefechan.
Not many losses were reported throughout the entire Federation but we have a long way to go yet………
Topping the Fed is Mr & Mrs Gus Power & Allen, timing five birds to take 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th doing 1209, 1203, 1200, 1193 and 1188.
D & P Skelton timed in to take 2nd Open on 1208. D Graham came in 8th and 9th Open doing 1179 and 1174. The above members all fly in the Springfield Club.
Jimmy Dalgliesh from Hoddam takes 4th Open on 1203 and H Dobie of Brydekirk is 10th Open on 1160.
So that’s the first one by with and it’s back to Appleby next week!

Hoddam F.C. 7/130
Jimmy Dalgliesh had a good win here by four minutes doing 1203, the only bird in the Club over 1200.
A & S Little takes 2nd spot doing 1148. G Dalgliesh & Son also had a good race with five birds in the first ten and took 3rd Club on 1146. W Gilmour came in 4th on 1143. The Club had very good returns overall.
Annan H.C. 7/166
A good win here for Club Secretary Angus Simmons, his young Chec Pd Hen recorded a velocity of 1141 timing in at 12.02pm.
R S R & R J Rome came next timing two together to take 2nd and 3rd Club doing 1113 and 1111. The next three were timed by J F McCarton on 1090 and 1087. Good returns were also reported from this Club.
Lockerbie H.C.
This one went to G A & L Firth on 1055, who had twenty-four yards to spare over the second bird of Davy Robinson over in the far West of the Club. Davy’s bird doing 1031.
Ewan & Allen Hind took the next two on 1026 and 1007. Next in was the winning loft again to take 5th on 992.
Springfield H.C. 8/207
Gus Power & Allen had a field-day here timing five birds in the leading six! They took 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Club on velocities of between 1209 to 1188. Five Cock birds were timed , three of them were Poortvelt & Red Fox / Albert Marcellis breeding, the other being a Leo Van Rijhn & Van Reet.
D & P Skelton took 2nd spot with a young Blue Hen doing 1208.
Brydekirk H.C. 4/76
A good result here for H Dobie over in the far West, his young Blue Hen was doing a velocity of 1160.
Young Scott Irving ‘Junr’ timed the next three doing 1148, 1146 and 1143. The winner H Dobie came in with the next two.
Langholm H.C. 2/20
A clean sweep here for R V Graham who timed the leading six on velocities of between 1123 to 1071.
Eastriggs H.C. 4/74
C Halbert won here from Mr & Mrs Mark Goldie (no velocities).
Nith Valley 10/237
A nice win here for A Crosbie on 1160, this one should be well up in the Section. Well done old boy, nice to see you’re still in the business !
A Skachill takes 2nd spot on 1159, 3rd and 4th goes to G Russell doing 1155 and 1154.
Dumfries F.C. 8/226
Another fine win for Mr & Mrs Karl Guenther, in fact they were 1st, 2nd and 3rd Club with velocities of 1158, 1156 and 1119.
Only the two Clubs being involved in the Section result.
