NORTH LIVERPOOL FED

NEWS FROM DARREN SMITH

Carentan 2 - June 2013

Hello folks,
North Liverpool Federation’s ninth race of the 2013 season took place from Carentan on Monday 10th June as part of the North West Combine liberation. Although the UK found itself gripped in the palm of a mini heatwave, coastal northern France was facing the brunt of volatile North East winds and there followed a weekend of frustration as news trickled out on Saturday of heavily overcast conditions at the race point. By mid morning it was official: make other plans.

Sunday could not come quick enough for most, but news of developments on site fell in synch with the leisurely pace generally associated with the day of rest. It was not until just after 1pm we were to learn our hopes of a race had succumb to the same fate as the day before and young birds, beer and barbecues became the order of the day.

And so to Monday morning. News duly arrived that the strings had been cut at 7.30am and the convoy cleared for home with the aid of an east south east wind which was forecast to turn south east later in the day around middle England. ETA’s of 5 and a half hours were perhaps a little optimistic but in the end, they were not too far wide of the mark and the leaders began touching down in Liverpool just shy of six hours.

Looking at the federation result sheet, it appears theat pigeons were arriving in small pockets and it took almost half an hour for the first thirty positions to be filled. Thanks must go to the efforts of Billy Reeves as most people I have spoken to since Monday have commented upon the condition of their returnees, no mean feat after 4 days in the confines of a basket, but our man on the ground had them well looked after. Let's crack on with the results.
