Bath 1 - April 2014

Hello folks,
North Liverpool Federation’s third race of 2014 took place from Bath, a new race point to the programme. Liberation took place on Saturday 26th April at 10.10am in a strong west south west wind. Predictions a lightning quick affair were realised as the leading pigeons in the federation recorded velocities touching an incredible 75 miles per hour. Most clubs experienced blanket finishes but there were still plenty of pigeons working their way back throughout the day that had missed their stop first time around.


Paddy Fraser & Norman Skelton record their first win of 2014 at the Edge Hill (9/146) The winner is a 2 year old cheq Van der Rhee widower on 2131 and he adds victory to his previous 3x3rd place finishes from France in 2013. Colin & Alan Baker take 2nd and 3rd positions on 1996 and 1991. First timer is a 3 year old cheq Pouw Bros Janssen widower who has a number of previous prizes, followed by a 3 year old cheq white flight Vandenabeele widower bred by club-mates Fraser & Skelton and he too has a number of other prizes to his credit. Terry Snagg takes 4th position on 1977 with a 2 year old cock that won 1st club 21st NL Fed in the season opener. Congratulations Paddy & Norman.

John Pugh repeats his great performance of the previous week by once more shutting out the first 4 positions at the Crosby. All four timers are bred via stock obtained from good friends the Campbell Brothers and this week’s winner adds to a previous victory from Bedhampton in 2013. The second timer also finished 2nd club last week and the third timer won from Hereford in 2013. Congratulations John. Thanks Joe.

Joe Perry and Son begin their assault on the 2014 season by taking the first three positions at the Litherland (12/322). The winner is a yearling cock from the best of Steven Goulding’s stock and he is a brother to the Minger x the Rocket. Second timer is a 2 year old cock Vanloon x Huijbrecht also via Steven Goulding, followed by another 2 year old Stickers Donkers also via Steven Goulding. Freddy Lloyd, Kev Moran and Ashley Healy maintain their solid start this week taking 4th position with their good yearling Wildemeersch x Soontjen hen which was 1st club, 3rd NL Fed recently and she is bred via John & John Gosling x Ian Gibb stock. Billy Dooley, Paddy Rowan & Sid Chapman record their first win of 2014 with a white Walter Docx x Camiel Cardon hen. Sire is the Docx Cock, responsible for many winners and he came to the lads as a gift from Eric Dodson. The dam is the White Wonder a multiple first prize winner bred by Mick & Adam O’Hara and she has also bred many winners. Team Heague take 2nd position with a yearling hen bred by Roy Reid out of a son of Norman Bridgewater’s 18x1st cock. Miller & Sons take 3rd position with a red Gevaert x Van Reet cock which was 3rd last week. He is a son of  ‘Broken-Toe’ a winner of 9x2nd prizes, 5 of which were to loft-mates.  Sid MPowell takes 4th position with a yearling red pied Van reet cock bred through stock obtained from John Russell of Moorends, near Doncaster. Billy Crompton earns a famous victory at the Spellow on 2115 with a Vandenabeele x Van Reet. All of the Spellow and Netherton members would like to congratulate Billy on his victory. Eddie Spencer takes 2nd position on 2075 with a pigeon bred by Netherton’s Harry Davies which was gifted to Eddie by the late Tommy McFadden. John & Alan Johnson & Darren Pattison take 3rd and 4th positions on 2062 and 2055 with last week’s 2nd and 3rd club timers. First in the cock is the lads’ very good Kellens x Tommy Craven widower that has won 6x1st and a stack of other cards, followed by a Marcelis widower whose parents originate in the lofts of Kirkby partnership J & J Campbell and he has also won and taken a lot of prizes. John & Gary Hartless and Paul Howard grease the wheels of their 2014 account by taking the first three positions over at the Pirrie (9/214). The winner is a yearling blue cock bred by Taylor Bros of the North East and is of Janssen origin. Second timer is a 2 year old cheq white flight cock bred by very good friend Teddy Davin. He has previous form and adds to victories as a young bird and from Carentan in 2013. Third timer is a yearling blue cock and this was a gift bred by John’s long time friend John Goulding. It didn’t take RSMF Lofts long to record their maiden victory at the Bootle (6/83) and the lads break their duck on 2131 with a homebred yearling which is via stock obtained from Ste Williamson & John Murphy. John Warren, Son & Marty Garrity take 2nd and3rd positions with two Walter Docx widowers on 2114 and 2107. Eddie Bradley takes 4th position on 2103 with a Louella Braspenning which also takes the first pools and the club nom. Thanks Keith.


Graham, Wendy & Connor Muirhead continue their slick start to the campaign at the Riverside (8/136) taking the first three positions on 2078, 2077 and 2066. The winner is a son of the No1 cock, which is a Willy Jacobs X Grondelaer, followed by '09' which has won the first 2 races this year and he is another son off the No1 cock. The third timer is a two year old multiple prize winner and he is again through the No1 cock. Rimmer & Cleminson take 4th position on 2056, no further details to hand. Thanks Ian.

Terry Hodson takes the red at the Central (11/172) with a 2 year old Jos Thoné hen on 2098 and she is bred by former club-mate and good friend Lee Davison. Terry also takes 3rd position on 2085 with a 2 year old Vandenabeele cock bred by Danny Regan which wins the £50 nom for a pools total of £90 (Good work Terry). Billy Earley maintains his good start taking 2nd and 4th positions on 2092 and 2078 with a late bred cock bred by Tom Robinson (Miller & Sons) and a 3 year old cock which has 3x1st club, 1st NL Federation and loads of other prizes and he again originates from young Tommo. Mick McDonald emerges the victor at the Netherton on 2127 with a 2 year old widowhood cock bred via stock obtained from his late brother John who flew so well in the Kirkdale. The dam is a Marcelis via Mick’s good friend John Stenson of Croxteth. John & John Gosling and Thomas Grice finish a very close 2nd position on 2126 with the same yearling celibate hen that was 2nd club 9th NL Fed Monmouth last week. John & Thomas also finished 10th Liverpool Amal last week, good flying boys. Robbie Kershaw takes 3rd position on 2088 with a 2 year old widowhood cock bred and gifted to Robbie by his good friends Alan & Mark Halsall. Thanks Terry.

John & Frannie McDowell wrestle command of top perch at the Vauxhall (11/269) as they take 1st and 2nd positions as well as 1st North Liverpool Federation. Both timers are Vandenabeeles, the winner being a grandson of Mark and Dickie Evans’ Jester 320 with the dam being bred by Southports’s John Blundell out of his direct Vandenabeeles. A brother to this cock was also a winner of 1st and 2nd NL Fed last season but his racing career was curtailed after 3 races due to injury. Hed has since gone on to prove his worth in the stock loft as he bred a winner in his first nest for a fancier in the North East. The second timer is out of Jimmy & Paul Weeder’s ‘Junior’ a winner of 6x1st and the dam is a daughter of the Mossman Hen when paired to an Andy Galley cock. This cock was 3rd Niort behind 2 loft mates last year. Ste Williamson and John Murphy take 3rd and 4th position with a Bogaert that was 3rd last week and the lads would like to thank Danny Regan for loaning the dam of the pigeon back to them. The second timer comes out of Foxwood Lofts stock via former club-mates Taylor and Edwards. Club scribe Tommy is pleased as punch as the Vauxhall members have maintained their top dog status in the fed for a second successive week. Thanks Tom.

Porter Bros assisted by young Amy Porter take top spot at the Tailors Arms (19/420) on 2194 with a 3 year old Vandenabeele widower which was a gift pigeon from Southport’s John Blundell. This takes his tally to 2x1st club, 2x2nd club and 1st Liverpool Classic Club as well as a lot of pool and prize money. Brian Halsall takes 2nd position on 2186 with a 2 year old widowhood cock whose sire comes from John & John Gosling, while the dam is through Reynaert’s Figo bloodlines. Jimmy Redfern & Son take 3rd position on 2184 with a 2 year old Alun Maul widowhood cock. Mick Nixon junior takes 4th position on 2179 with one of his 2013 Belgian imports. Thanks Jim.


John Jones signals his 2014 intent at the Kirkdale (7/95) with 1st, 2nd and 4th positions on 2113, 2112 and 2092. The winner comes via Kenny Mercer who John would like to thank and his sire was 2nd Niort in 2013. The second timer comes via good friend and club-mate Vin Maguire out of his Syndicate Lofts bloodlines and what a gift this cock has turned out to be for John as he has so far taken 3x1st and 1x2nd (Thanks Vin - John). There are no details on the third timer, but after having found one of his youngsters dead earlier that day, this result was a terrific pick-me-up for John. Vin Maguire takes 3rd position on 2096 this week with a 3 year old of Syndicate Lofts bloodlines which has previously won from France. Thanks Mark.
