Best day of the season produces best race of the season, as Jim Parker & Son win a thriller out of Honiton.
Saturday July 11th saw the weather improve vastly, with no rain about for probably the first weekend of the season? with a moderate NW wind; sunshine and clear skies, the pigeons had by far the best conditions of the season, this helped produce a fantastic days racing. 9 clubs sent 822 birds to Honiton which were liberated at 08-35 in a n.w. wind. 6o seconds covered the top 12 pigeons; another minute saw the top 20 positions filled.

Jim Parker 1st Fed winner
Congratulations to Jim & Matt Parker of Stretton who topped the fed on 1257 with a yearling b w/f Leo Hereman cock, well done Jim. The inform loft of d. Nesbit & Sons of Hill Ridware filled the next three spots, taking 2nd; 3rd; and 4th fed on 1253; 1252.9; 1252.8; all yearling hereman hens. Mr & Mrs Alan Stretton got the leading birds into South Derbyshire; the Swadlincote town loft took 5th; 6th; and 7th fed on 1452.3; 1451.9; 1451.8; all yearlings. The first a Wall, Lunt & Green x Van de Weyer cock; followed by a WLG/Louis Thijs x van den Bosche hen; then a Verheyen x Hofken cock. Clive Yates of the Nelson had em dropping like flies, he timed in 7 birds in 46 seconds, the first two taking 8th & 9th fed on 1450; 1449.9; were a 2yo blue Wildie cock; then a yearling Mike Ganus cock. completing the top 10 were Mr & Mrs k lycett of Hill Ridware on 1449.7 with a 2yo blue hen; a sister to “Eddy”.
Around the clubs,
Starting at Stretton, 11 sent 163 and Jim Parker & Son had their team of Curtis, Wall & Lunt Leo Heremans cocks on fire. They took the first seven in the club, and nine of the top ten. Their winner on 1457 a yearling b w/f cock was 2 minutes clear of his loft mates. Jim then had three together on 1440; two yearling cocks split by a 2yo cock, great performance Jim, well done.
At Etwall, 8 sent 82 and Alan Peach took the red card on 1392 with a Roland Janssen and followed up with another in 4th club on 1365, this was bred by Tony Whitehurst. Alan & Liz Houldsworth were runners up on 1384 and Neil Crofts took 3rd spot on 1370.
At Osmaston Park, 10 sent 104 and Mick Stone filled the top three with his Ceuleman cocks on 1444; 1417; 1402. Mr & Mrs Paul Todd were 4th on 1400 with a Lambrecht cock.

Alan Stretton
At Swadlincote Town, 10 sent 151 and Mr & Mrs Alan Stretton produced a fine performance in taking the top three on 1452; 1451.9; 1451.5; two yearling cocks split by a yearling hen. The winner was out of Alan’s 15yo Wall, Lunt & Green cock, that is out of the “Piet” and “Gem” lines, the dam is a van de Weyer. Runner up was out of a Wall, Lunt & Green x Louis Thijs cock when paired to one of Alan’s’ old van den Bosche hens. Third was out of a Verheyen cock and a Brian Keagan Hofken hen. Debbie Fearn was 4th on 1435 with a 2yo pied hen bred by Mr & Mrs Trevor Collins & son; she was purchased in the clubs breeder buyer scheme, she won Yeovil and took 6th fed earlier in the season, as with this race, sent sitting 8 days.
Clive Yates
At the Nelson, 5 sent 70 and Clive Yates did the clean sweep taking the first four on 1450; 1449.9; 1449.5; 1449.2.the winner a 2yo Wildie cock who has won in each of the last 3 seasons. He was followed by three yearling cocks; the first a grandson of Mike Ganus’ “Mona Lisa” then one bred by Eddie Bateman, part of a yb swap between the lofts last year, and finally one off a Shaun McDonough hen, a daughter of “Magic Pie” this cock was 2nd club a few weeks previous.

Mark Nesbitt
At Hill Ridware, 6 sent 104 and D. Nesbitt & Sons continue their brilliant form, they took the first three on 1453; 1452.9; 1452.8, all yearling hereman hens, the first two were Belgian rung. Mr & Mrs K Lycett were 4th on 1449 with a 2yo hen, a sister to “Eddy” her full sister was 2nd open in the North Midlands Championship club from Carentan the same day.
C Leadbeater & Sons of Hill Ridware take 1st fed Carentan.
On the same day the federations first of two OB special races took place. 48 members sent 410 birds to Carentan, convoyed by Phil Brown and liberated at 07-15 in a n.w. wind.
Congratulations to C Leadbeater & Sons of Hill Ridware, they took 1st fed on 1276 with a 3yo cheq Kurt & Raf Platteeuw cock pooled to win £247-50.
Gordie Jones
Rich & Gordie Jones & Batt, also of Hill Ridware are never far away when it comes to the channel, this race sees them take 2nd & 3rd fed on 1271; 1268; with a 2yo Stevie Price cheq hen; pooled to win £307-50; and a 3yo Graham Jones hen, pooled to win £185-50. good days work that! Mr & Mrs Trevor Collins & Son are another loft who excel at the fed special races, they take 4th; 5th; 9th and 11th fed on 1258; 1257; 1241.6; 1241.55; all 2yo hens. They’re first a blue Ceuster x Soderland & Maddison hen who has topped the fed previous, was pooled to win £50-50. There second a blue hen was off Dave Atkin x syndicate loft stock; pooled to win £11-00. There third is a SVR x Soontjen hen. Clive Yates, always a threat, was 6th; 7th; 8th; 14th; 15th; on 1247.9; 1247.07; 1247.01; 1215 & 1211. Clive’s first was a yearling hen bred by Tim Atkin and purchased at a NFC sale. She was followed by a 2yo Mark Gilbert hen, then a 2yo daughter off the “Mona Lisa” hen.
Malc & Mark Wright
Completing the top 10 were Davis, Wright & Sons on 1241.57 with a 2yo cheq hen off “31616” x Terry Fearn’s “Broken Wing” lines. “31616” has produced countless prize-winners, the dam was purchased at Terry’s reduction sale, she has bred birds to win 5th; 6th; 8th; 9th and 10th fed from the channel. Total pools paid out was £802.

At Etwall, 5 sent 41 and Alan Peach topped off a good day by taking 1st & 2nd club on 1203; 1167; the winner was bred off a pair Alan purchased at the “who dares wins” one loft auction. The runner up was off a bird from Melv Willis of Winshill. Willie Horton was 3rd & 4th on 1145; 1125.
At Oosmaston Ppark, 14 sent 104 and Stan & H W Hall took 1st & 4th club on 1188; 1160; the winner; a 2yo cheq cock was bred by the late Brian Broughton. Glew & O’Donnell were 2nd & 3rd on 174; 1171; Dave & Seamus timing in two 2yo Janssen x van de Wouwers.

At Swadlincote Town, 12 sent 127 and Mr & Mrs Trevor Collins and son took the top three on 1258; 1257; 1241.6; all 2yo hens. Davis, Wright & Sons were 4th on 1241.5 with another 2yo hen. All these four birds made the fed top 10, details above.

Over at Hill Ridware, 8 sent 57 and C Leadbeater & Sons took top spot on 1276 with a 3yo Platteeuw cock, this went on to top the fed!! Rich & Gordie Jones & Batt were 2nd & 3rd on 1271; 1268; the first a 2yo Steve Price hen; followed by a 3yo NEHU rung Graham Jones hen. Spink & Barks were 4th on 1215 with their good 6yo hen “93”; this Lotterman de Bruin hen is a multi-first prize winner inland, including 2 x 1st fed.
Stretton, 5 sent 67 with the North Midland CC. and Ray & Jean Grimsdell took the first prize on 1215 with a 4yo Brian Denney cock, this cock flew Tarbes in 2019. Mr & Mrs Pete Cox were 2nd & 4th on 1204; 1185; the first a yearling hen off John Sheasby stock, followed by a 3yo john Sheasby x Ann Smith Vandenabeele cock. Alan Brassington was 3rd on 1201 with a yearling cock off jack walker stock.
