BURTON & SOUTH DERBYSHIRE FEDERATION

by Pete Wightman

MR & MRS JASON PHILLIPS OF DERBY -  TOP THE FED OUT OF BLANDFORD (1).

Saturday September 9th saw 75 members send 1158 birds to the first of two Blandford races. With heavy showers forecast for lunchtime, an early lib was on the cards.

Alan our race controller wanted to get them up before the 08-45 lib time, but the weather was not too clever at the race point. The birds were liberated into a light West wind, and we got away with a decent race, with excellent returns.

Unfortunately, one or two areas were in the middle of heavy downpours when their birds arrived, Hill Ridware and Derby being two examples. On the other hand, here in Burton and in Tamworth we had no rain when the birds arrived, and only a little beforehand, that’s what the weather forecasters say about these heavy showers, some will catch one and some wont.

Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Jason Phillips of the Brackens Club in Derby, they topped the Fed for the first time ever on 1628 with a grizzle cock. This cock was bred by Fred Stevenson out of the Jack Whitehouse grizzle family. This cock actually won the clubs gold ring race the week previous.  The dam, a white hen, also won for Fred Stevenson.
