BURTON & SOUTH DERBYSHIRE FEDERATION.
Phil & Jack Bourke take 1st & 2nd out of the opening Cheltenham YB race.
The 2025 Young Bird season got under way on Saturday July 26th, a week after the scheduled start was postponed due to thundery weather. Patience was the name of the day, as low cloud and drizzle on the line of flight meant a morning liberation was out of the question.
Alys liberated the 944 birds entered by 44 members from 7 clubs at 2-20 pm in a Light West North West wind, it turned out a beautiful afternoon with sunshine, blue skies and white fluffy clouds.Opening Young bird races are usually far from straight forward, and this was the case again. There were plenty of gaps between returns, and a lot of young birds returned into the evening and early next morning. Due to the poor weather in the morning, there wasn’t many liberations taking place, and as the weather improved, most federations racing from the Worcestershire; Gloucestershire and Wiltshire area started liberating in the early afternoon, so the sky would have been fairly populated with inexperienced young birds on the first race, after a long wait on the transporters. A lot of federations experienced similar racing.
