Mark Nesbitt takes top six out of Yeovil.

Saturday September 6th saw 32 members from 6 clubs send 490 birds to Yeovil. They were liberated at 11-20 in a SE wind; it was a good race with the birds enjoying the warm helping wind.                                                                       

Mark Nesbitt made hay, taking the top six in a 5 second spell, as Hill Ridware dominated the result, no surprise with the East in the wind.   Mark’s fed topper on 1842 was a blue Hereman hen; she’s a grand daughter of champion “Isla”. Runner up on 1841.9 was a blue Lambrecht x Hereman hen; her sire a grandson of “Snowball”; her dam the “National Hen” who’s a daughter of “Isla”. 3rd fed on 1841.9 was a cheq Hereman hen; a grand daughter of “Isla”. 4th fed also on 1841.9 was a blue hen off a son of “Pencil 52”.5th fed on 1841 .7 was the White grizzle Lambrecht/Hereman x Gust Janssen hen that was runner up in the fed futurity race the week before; her sire out of a son of “Grizzly Bear” when paired to a daughter of “Isla” who was 2nd MNFC and 1st P&D Gold ring.  6th fed on 1841.0 was a blue Hereman x Vandebrande hen, her sire a son of “Isla”.

C T Leadbeater & Sons took the next four, on 1838; 1837; 1836.8(2); his first the cheq hen that topped the fed out of Frome (1); her sire a Gaby Vandenabeele x Flanders Collection Hereman; and his dam is out of the Eijerkamp “Justus” line when again paired to a Flanders collection Hereman.

At Stretton, 4 sent 72 and Phil Whetton got a much deserved win; taking 1st; 3rd and 4th club on 1760.0; 1758; 1756; winning the club by the finest of margins; 1 second!   The winner was a cheq cock out of “93” the good Steve Bennett cock now retired to stock. He was followed by a Blue Lambrecht hen out of Stu Wiskin and Trevor bird stock; her sire a winner of 3rd section; 8th open NMCC Guernsey. 4th club was a cheq hen; her sire a Bob Fenech Van den Bulck; her dam a daughter of the Steve Bennett cock “93”.

Runner up on 1759.8 was Alan Brassington with a blue cock; this cock was 3rd club Frome (1); his sire a Soontjen x F & J Leys cock was 1st Section MCC Guernsey; her dam is a grand daughter of “Mr Bean”.

Up at Holbrook; 5 sent 120 and Pete Schofield gets another red card; taking top spot on 1714 with one bred by Jeff Greenaway of Northern Ireland.

Russ Bailey filled the next three positions on 1710; 1707.8; 1707.4; all hens flying to the perch out of his Woodroffe Bros stock.

At Swadlincote Town, 6 sent 57 and Davis, Wright & Sons got a clear winner on 1648 with a cheq hen; her sire is out of “Best Kittel 463” x “Lady Diana” from Tony & Lee Painter. Her dam is out of “King of the Rode” x Debbie Fearn’s good Stefaan Lambrecht hen.

Charlie Murfin took the next three on 1579; 1576; 1566; with two cocks off Dave Stone split by a home bred blue cock.

At Osmaston Park, 7 sent 92 and Mick Stone was 1st & 2nd on 1681; 1670; both Eric Ceulemans.   

Stewart Wainwright was 3rd & 4th on 1661; 1657; the first a red cock off a pair from Kenny Orme of Poolsbrook; followed by a cheq Delbar cock.

Finally, at Etwall, 6 sent 87 and Kev Southall took 1st & 2nd club on 1745; 1740; the winner a well fancied cheq Hereman Cuester hen; followed by a blue wf cock off R & D Hunt.

Pete & Shirley Harrison were 3rd & 4th on 1661.8; 1661.4; both cheq hens.

Davis, Wright & Sons take top 2 in 2025 Breeder Buyer.

September 6th also saw the 2025 breeder Buyer race from Yeovil, 16 birds made it the race, competing for the prize money of £1888-00. The birds were liberated at 10-50 in a SE wind and the Hartshorne lofts of Davis, Wright & Sons racing out of Swadlincote Town took the top two prizes on 1511; 1510; the winner a blue hen bred by Debbie Fearn earns both lofts £236-00 each, runner up was a home bred Blue Pied cock, earning Malc, Michael and Matt a further £283-20.

3rd on 1492 was Mark Nesbitt of Hill Ridware with a home bred Dark cheq hen sent sitting; she wins £188-80. 

Alan Peach of Etwall had a good race, taking 4th; 5th and 8th prizes on 1472; 1471; 1286; the first a home bred cheq hen; winning £151-04. His next two were both bred by Russ Bailey; both cheq hens; these earn both Alan and Russ £132-16 each.

Brian & Sue Stone of Holbrook were 6th & 7th on 1460; 1403; both home bred cheq hens, winning a total of £264-32. 

9th on 1190 was Graham Evans of Swadlincote Town with a home bred Blue Pied hen, winning a total of £132-16.
