ALAN STRETTON OF SWADLINCOTE TOWN WINS 1ST; 2ND AND 5TH FED OUT OF MARLBOROUGH (2).

Saturday May 3rd saw 68 members from 8 clubs send 1567 birds to Marlborough in Wiltshire for the second week running. Alys had the strings cut and the birds away at 10-35 in a fresh cool NW wind. The air temperature had dropped considerably from that in the week leading up to the race. Visibility was great and there were no problems with the weather at all.

It was a tale of two clubs on either sides of the federation, with Swadlincote taking the top five positions, and then Mark Nesbitt over at Hill Ridware filling the next eight spots.

Congratulations to Alan Stretton of Newhall, Alan was 1st; 2nd and 5th fed on 1388; 1387; 1360; the winner a 2yo Cheq Cock out of a grandson of “Kittel” from Jo Gaunt when paired to a daughter out of a Van den Bulck x Hasendonckx  pairing from Steve Foster. Runner up was the 2yo Blue cock that was 3rd club out of Cheltenham; his sire is out of Jos Cools “Speedy”; his dam out of Alan’s good Louis Thijs fed topper. 5th fed was a 2yo Cheq hen out of “The Irish Cock” from Jo Gaunt, he was a fed topper; her dam off Geoff Farmer’s Curtis; Wall & Lunt family.

3rd & 4th fed on 1372; 1363; was Neil Harvey. His first was the yearling Cheq hen that was 6th fed Marlborough (1). Her sire’s an inbred JPS Lofts Stefaan Lambrecht through the “Vooruitvlieger” lines; her dam is off the “Harry” line from Mark Williamson of Ashbourne. She was followed by a yearling Blue WF Vandenabeele hen out of a direct pair from M & D Evans.

On a day when many lofts commented on the gappy returns, Mark Nesbitt over at Hill Ridware had eight birds arrive together, going over the ETS pads in a 9 second burst to fill the next 8 spots in the Fed result. His best winning 6th fed on 1352.5 was a yearling Pied Hereman x Lambrecht hen out of a son of “Isla” and a daughter of “Snowball”; she was followed by a 2yo Blue Hereman hen also on 1352.5 taking 7th Fed. 8th Fed was a Grizzle hen on 1351.3, this one off Stuart Inett. 9th Fed a 2yo Cheq Hereman x Cock on 1351.0; this cock was 10th open in the Hurst Hill race. 10th fed; also on 1351.0 was a yearling Cheq Leo Hereman hen.

Around the Clubs,

Starting at Osmaston Park in Derby, where 15 members sent 205 birds. Dave Waddington made it back to back wins, taking 1st & 2nd on 1289; 1287.4; the first a 2yo Cheq Cock ; followed by a 5yo Cheq Cock; both out of “The Bat” x Alan Brassington line.

S & H W Hall was 3rd on 1287.1; Stan timing in a yearling Cheq Pied Van Den Bulck hen out of Dave Stone stock.

4th club on 1285 were Alan & Liz Houldsworth with a home bred yearling Blue hen.

At Stretton, 8 sent 199 and Phil Bourke was 1st; 3rd; and 4th on 1291; 1274.6; 1274.1; his winner a 3yo Vandenabeele x Van den Bulck cock off M/M Lycett stock. His sire is a full brother to “Eddy”; his dam a Central Lofts “Kittel”. He’s same way bred as the two sisters “31” and “32” who were 1st & 2nd fed Honiton in 2023. 3rd club was a 2yo Cheq Pied hen bred by Excelsoir. 4th club was the 4yo Cheq cock “Mo’s Bro”; he’s a winner of 6 x 1st, and goes back to D.Nesbitt & Son and Bob Fenech Soontjen lines.

Daniel Kurylo the winner of the two opening races was pushed back into runners up spot on 1284 with a 2yo Cheq Hereman Cock. He won a 1st club in 2024 and was bred by friend Rafal Andrzejczaik, who also bred the cock that won the opening two races.

Up at Holbrook, 10 sent 257 and Brian & Sue Stone got a real good winner on 1301 with a yearling Ceulemans from their good friends Keith and Brian Simpson of Skinningrove up in Cleveland.

Russ Bailey was 2nd & 4th on 1289; 1286; the first a yearling Blue cock off M/M K Lycett x Tom Burkhill lines; followed by a 2yo off Woodroofe Bros x John Hodgeson stock. 

John Dowd was 3rd on 1287 with a 2yo blue Hereman Cuester cock bred by Steve Williamson of Eden Lofts in Doncaster. John has had some good stuff from Steve in the last 2 years.

Over at Hill Ridware, 5 sent 151 and the leading 5 birds appear in the fed report above.

At Swadlincote Town, 15 sent 426 and the top five birds also took top five in the fed, details above.

At Winshill, 7 sent 145 and Jim Parker was 1st & 2nd on 1347; 1325; both 2yo Hereman cocks out of his Wall, Lunt and Green stock.

Melv Willis was 3rd on 1320 with a yearling Blue Hereman x Van Den Bulck hen.

Debbie Fearn was 4th on 1319 with a yearling Blue Stefaan Lambrecht cock; he’s out of Debbie’s good Lambrecht hen.

At Etwall, 5 sent 97 and for the third week running Alan Peach filled the top four spots. The winner on 1304 was bred by Kev Southall; runner up on 1283 was a Roland Jansenne; 3rd on 1273 a Jansenne and 4th on 1263 a Delbar.

Finally, at Castle Gresley; 3 sent 77 and Mr & Mrs Graham Evans were 1st & 3rd on 1347; 1313; the winner the same yearling Cheq WF Wildie cock; he is off a grandson of “Firecracker” when paired to the good Dark FVW hen bred by Dixon & Sons of Wearside, she won 2 x 1st at Swadlincote Town in 2024. Lees & Miller were 2nd & 4th on 1321; 1301.
