BURTON & SOUTH DERBYSHIRE FEDERATION.

2025 Futurity Race sees Jim Whitehouse take top spot out of Blandford.

2025 was the 2nd year that the Federation organised and ran a Futurity race. Anyone can purchase rings and send their birds to auction, but only Federation members are allowed to purchase the birds to race. 210 rings were sold at £10 per ring; all 210 didn’t make it to the two auctions. The first auction raised £4960 and the second auction £5075, in total the income was £12145; this meant fanciers would be racing for £9716-00, a great effort by all involved. There were no expenses as yours truly paid for the purchase of the rings.

On to the race, it took place on Saturday August 23rd from Blandford, it was scheduled for Yeovil, but Yeovil was still under Bird Flu restrictions. 26 members entered 73 birds which were liberated at 10-40 in a very light East South East wind.

Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Jim Whitehouse & Sons of Hill Ridware who took first prize on 1333 with a home bred blue cock. This is a very popular win, as Jim is well respected and liked; I’ve not heard anyone say a bad word about Jim. The winner was a blue Luc Vervoort cock out of stock purchased from Alex Spence of Bromsgrove. Jim said the cock came bang on line and didn’t waste a second on trapping. This win has really cheered Jim up as like many fanciers he’s had problems this year holding on to his youngsters. Jim would like to thank Alys; Graham and the rest of the team who organised the sales and made the race possible. Jim wins a total of £2429-00, very nice too.

Ron’s second bird was a home bred Blue cock out of his fed topper from Marlborough in 2024; he was out of a Dark Cheq cock that the late Trevor Bird purchased in a NMCC sale, that went on to win 1st club; 4th fed Carentan, when paired to a granddaughter of “De Zot”. It’s lovely to see three non federation members pick up prize money; Ian; Shaun and Ernesto are all club mates flying with the Kidderminster Elite club in the Heart of England Fed. On behalf of the federation, thanks to all who entered birds, purchased birds, and to the hard working organisers. Hopefully we’ll do it again in 2026?
