AROUND THE SEVERN VALLEY

RAY BEVAN

Performances of Severn Valley Federation members at Classic and National levels have been truly remarkable and deserve a mention before we start Federation business. We had Graham Clift of Charlton Kings and Pershore clubs winning 1st Section 3rd Open and 3rd Section 7th Open in the BBC Messac race. Unfortunately Graham’s winner was lost to a sparrowhawk a week after his win. In the NFC from Fougeres we had Martin Williams of Newent & District winning 1st & 2nd Section J. In the same race we had Robbie Rome of Cheltenham H.S. topping Section I. Finally in the MNFC Carentan race we saw Paul, Brian & Wendy Hyett of Pershore & District taking 1st & 2nd SW Section and 2nd & 3rd Open followed by Booth & Roper at Malvern taking 4th SW Section 7th Open. Congratulations to you all!

Gloucester & District (13/145) 1st Club 15th Fed was the prolific winning De Klak cock of Tony & Aidan Locke on 1313 in his fourth race of the season. He must surely be favourite to win bird of the year – he also wins the Club nom. He was closely followed by the partnership’s 2 year old Braspenning cock to win 2nd Club 20th Fed. 3rd & 4th Club was Andy Harker on 1304 & 1295. The first bird had been 4th the previous week and had done well in the Synwell YB Open race. His grand-father was a London N Rd Combine winner. The second bird was a Van Loon.

Ombersley & District (10/229) 1st on 1312, the ‘Hairy Biker’ Ron Weavers. Ron had a bad start to the season being plagued by the hawk. Close behind in 2nd spot was Martin & Nancy Minton on 1309 - this with a well-fancied cock taking all the pools in their first season on widowhood. In 3rd place brother L & C Minton with a 5 year old on 1286. To make it a family race, Les Minton is 4th, also on 1286 with a yearling cock.

Malvern (8/171) T & J Davies were 1st on 1303. In 2nd & 4th spots were Mike & Chris Lee on 1295 & 1275 while Joe Smith took 3rd on 1292.
