North Liverpool Fed

Hello Folks, the North Liverpool Federation held there seventh old bird race of the season form Yeovil on 27th May 2023 with a distance ranging from 166 miles through to roughly 178 miles to the home lofts.

80 members sent 1758 birds which were liberated at 9.45am into an East North East wind. The convoyers report this week read ‘Arrived at Yeovil at 3.30am, clear skies and mild temperatures throughout the night. By 9am visibility was perfect with wall to wall sunshine and 13 degrees. The race controller gave the go ahead for a 9.45am liberation with a clear line ahead. The liberation was superb, birds instantly grouped and headed North as one team’ RACE ON!

First stop this week is with our shortest flying members. Chris Jones takes the red card in the Garston FC (8/210) with a red cock though Dave Cain’s Cattrysse birds. This cock has already showed form this season winning from Ludlow and is also a winner as a young bird. Tom Kehoe is bridesmaid this week with a yearling hen originating from R&B Smith and G.W.P Macaloney blood lines. 3rd club this week was taken by Ron & Kieran Pendleton with a bird bred by J&J Campbell a previous winner of 2x1st prizes. 4th club – Dave Cain – No details.  

Up the River Mersey now and our next stop is the Princes Park HS (9/199) and the super form continues for Team Heague winning 5 races on the trot. This week’s winner is a yearling blue widowhood cock taking his second win of the season, a gift bird bred by good friend Lee Maguire. The partnership also take 2nd and 4th prizes this week, their second timer is a 2 year old cheq widowhood cock and is a gift bird from Paul Beaumont. This cock is a very consistent racer and was 3rd club last week from Frome. John and Danny’s third timer is another yearling cock, this time a son of their 10x1st winner when paired to a daughter of ‘Bridgit’ 1st MNFC Bordeaux – Frank Bristow. Well done. Mick Hannaway takes 3rd club this week with a yearling blue cock which is a grandson of Kittel.

Over at the Vauxhall (7/159) Rees Brothers & Caples add another win to their season with their super ‘Irish 37’ a winner of 3x1st, 2x2nd this season as well as a couple of cross bar finishes’ in the fed including 2nd, 3rd & 3rd, once beaten by loft mates. This cock was bred by good friends Tom & Roger Gregory – Ireland.  Excellent pigeon. Harry, Peter and Thomas also take 4th spot – no details. 2nd & 3rd club goes to Ste Williamson & Murphy, their first timer is a German bird bought from John Gerard whilst their next arrival is a De Mere bred by Zak Williams & Grandad.

Ste & Pat Moffit take their fifth win of the season in the Edge Hill FC (5/92) with a blue yearling cock bred in the stock loft via their Van Loon family. A full brother to this cock has won 1st, 2nd & 3rd club this season as well as a 6th Fed. Daniel & Ray Scotton take the next two prizes with a yearling blue cock bred by John Mowbray – North East, followed by another yearling blue cock this time bred by Bob Fenech. Back over to the winners for 4th prize and this time Ste & Pat clock a yearling blue hen which is a full sister to their winner.

The excellent season continues for Rees Brothers & Caples over in the Central FC (13/200) were the partnership take 1st & 3rd club. Their winner is a 2 year old pencil hen. The sire is a grandson of ‘Sagan’ whilst the dam is a granddaughter of ‘Kittel’. This hen has now won 3x1st including other prizes. Peter, Harry & Thomas’ next arrival was a yearling cheq pied hen who’s sire is a half-brother to ‘Lincia’ whilst the dam is a daughter of ‘Bratt’ a full brother to ‘Kittel’ bred by Marcel Sangers. Terry Hodson takes 2nd club with the same yearling hen that won the fed from Mangotsfield this season, Bred by Curtis, Wall & Lunt, Gifted by Ste Maylett. John Rimmer takes 4th club with last week’s winner, a 2 year old blue cock which has also had 2x4th prizes and was bred by McCardle & Archbold.

Joe Perry & Son are the winners in the Litherland FC (5/152) this week with a Van Loon bred by his good friend Steven Goulding. Ted Davin & Son take 2nd & 3rd club. First over the pad is the ever consistent ‘Mila’ a 3 year old hen which is a winner of 4 red cards as we as 1st federation. Sire is a Huybrecht bred by Jimmy & Ian Fleming – Crumlin, Ireland whilst the dam was bred by club mates Lloyd, Moran & Healey. Their next arrival is a yearling cock that was 3rd club 8th fed last week. His sire is a son of ‘Big Kev’ whilst the dam is bred by Jimmy & Ian Fleming and is a winner of 6x1st as well as 1st fed 2nd North West Combine. Joe Pearman takes 4th spot. This pigeon has previously been 15th & 24th Fed. Sire is bred by G.W&P Macaloney and the dam is a gift pigeon from Lloyd & Healey. Teddy Davin & Son win the inland averages. Well Done all.

Billy Fulton & Dave Lee claim victory and provisional first federation in the Pirrie FC (10/222) with a cheq white flight hen bred by Tommy Hibbs. In 2nd position see’s Joe Elder & Sons, a full brother to this pigeon is sire to 1st & 2nd Fed in 2022. Steve Gildea, Harry & Frankie take 3rd prize with a Ged Undsworth pied bought at the Pirrie Breeder/Buyer sale. 4th club  - Jimmy Foley, no details. Joe Elder & Sons win the club averages based on the first 7 races whilst Steve Gildea & Son & Frankie were runners up. Congratulations!

At the Netherton FC (9/243) it was a close call with three birds being clocked within one second. John Nixon comes out triumphant taking 1st & 3rd prizes to make it three wins on the bounce. Clocking a pair of nest mates this week, the winner being 4th club last week whilst the other winning his first prize card. They originate from Paul Beaumont x Ste Goulding blood and both parents where excellent racers before being retired to stock last season. Brian Halsall takes 2nd position with a daughter of the ‘Black Saturday 747’. This cock has been pipped at the post on two occasions for topping the fed, once by his brother. The dam is the ‘Big 20’ a daughter of two birds which has 4 RPRA meritorious awards between them as well as four federation wins. In 4th position is Mick & Robyn McDonald with a roundabout hen which was 2nd club from Monmouth this season.

Marie Warren is next to report on behalf of the Bootle FC (9/168) and once again, Eddie Naylor & Son bag another red card as well as the £35 nom. This week’s winner is a very consistent racer winning its 3rd win of his career. The sire is bred by Alan Horton – Telford from a cock which has had 12x1st as well as 3 open fed positions and is a top Janssen pigeon. The grandmother to this week’s winner is a good red hen with five wins and many more cards under her belt, she is a Walter Docx bred by Les Pinfield – Midlands. Hitting the cross bar this week was the partnership of Mr & Mrs Warren & D Foat & son with a Willy Jacobs which won from Worcester this season. In 3rd was Paul Hankin with one of his home bred pigeons which has already taken a 3rd place this season. Back with the winners now and Eddie Naylor & son clock a Davy Siner Wildermeerch x Janssen to take 4th spot, a winner of many cards. Thank you Maria.

Final stop this week is the Kirkdale WMHS (6/126) and Johnson Bros & Pattison climb back on their podium to take 1st prize, this week’s winner is the same pigeon that was 3rd club last week, the sire is a gift pigeon from Will Saggers which is a sire to winners whilst the dam is a Gaby Vandenabeele that was 3rd Taylors Arms Breeder/Buyer winning three thousand pounds. Graham & Wendy Muirhead & Son clock a brace of pigeons to take 2nd, 3rd & 4th spots. Their super hen, ‘The Rat’, which was bred by Kevin Moran, was first over the pad. She is the 2022 federation bird of the year, a winner of 5x1st clubs including 1st North West Combine and 1st Liverpool 2 bird specialist club. She is also a winner of 2nd RPRA sprint/overall bird of the year award in the Western region. This season so far she has won 4th club, 29th fed, 1st club 6th fed. Next over the pad to take 3rd club is a 2 year old blue wf cock, a son of their consistent breeder ‘Stitches’ x ’87 hen’. This cock is a winner on the road before as well as numerous other prizes. Finally, the partnership clocked another 2 year old cock which is a full brother to the 3rd prize winner.
