North Liverpool Federation

Hello Folks, where are the weeks going, I no sooner complete an article and it’s time to get stuck in on the next one. I interact with you lot more than I do my better half, which isn’t a bad thing. I hope she doesn’t pick this week’s mag up for a read though, or I will get the usual ‘I’ll open that stock loft door if you carry on’.

Anyway, on Saturday 20th May the North Liverpool Federation held its sixth race of the season from Frome, a distance of 150-160 miles which our athletes covered in three hours ten minutes with the leading pigeons recording velocities of mid 1400’s and once again, excellent returns and a brilliant job done by the lads in power.

Over at the liberation site the conditions were described as ‘beautiful blue skies’ by John Heague and his apprentice, Daniel Scotton, with northeast winds and temps of 14 degrees, it was time to book their liberation slot. The strings were cut at 10am with all pigeons immediately heading north, fighting the wind.

The famous Liverpool auctioneer, John Rimmer, takes centre stage this week over at the Central FC (16/218) by the skin of his teeth with ’58’ a very consistent blue widowhood cock which was also 4th club last week. He was bred by McCardle & Archbold from their Walter Docx family which have stood the test of time. The nest mate to this cock is also a winner of 1st club 11th fed in 2021. Congratulations John. The ever-consistent lofts of Rees Bros & Caples clock three handy arrivals to take 2nd, 3rd & 4th club. First over the pad for the lads is a blue wf hen, finishing bridesmaid for the second time this season after being beaten by her loft mate in an earlier race. Sire is a Van Den Bulk direct from ‘Katu’ bred by Marcel Sangers, as is the dam, a daughter of ‘Bratt’. Next the lads clocked a blue Sticker Donker hen bred by Gregory Bros – Ireland. This hen has had previous form being a winner of 2x1st and 2x2nd clubs plus many other prizes followed by a 2 year old home bred which has also been very consistent. Well done Harry, Peter & Thomas.  As we know, this is the money club, and this week was no different, another £230 paid out in pools and bonus ball’s with Rees Bros and Caples winning £120, John Farley £60 and M Pearson & Sons £50.

Next up is the Princes Park HS (9/211) and you guessed it, Team Heague take all the prizes for  the second week running, making it four wins on the bounce. 1st prize winner for John & Danny is a 2 year old blue widowhood cock, a son of their Liverpool 2bird winner when paired to ‘Box16’ a winner of many prizes before being retired to stock where he is breeding winners every year. Nineteen seconds later the lads clocked a yearling cheq widowhood cock, a son of their 10x1st winner when paired to a daughter of ‘Bridget’ 1st MNFC Bordeaux for Frank Bristow. Next up was a 2 year old cheq widowhood cock a gift bird form Paul Beaumont and finally ‘Big Wattles’ a 2 year old cheq cock which has been 2nd & 5th club this season. I would just like to mention that this week the lads took the first seven club positions, a fantastic season so far.
