Saturday July 18^th saw the final inland race for our ob’s in this shortened season. on another Saturday where rain was present, thankfully for our birds it lay to the NW of our area. 9 clubs entered 1081 birds which were liberated at 09-20 in a WSW wind; they fairly romped home with excellent returns. they were slightly quicker than I thought, my estimate was mid 1600’s, but the leading birds nearly made the mile a minute mark. congratulations to Dave & Andy Swift of Holbrook, they top the fed on 1748 with a yearling grizzle cock. This cock is a great grandson of “Pitbull 777” x van den bulk from Dragonfly Lofts. This grizzle cock has won twice this year and also won as a yb taking a good fed position.

Mick Harvey & son of Swadlincote Town were 5^th & 9^th fed on 1737.9; 1732.9; with two 2yo cocks; the first from double MNFC winner “Max” x “Corky” lines x James Parker “National Beauty” lines, then a 2yo grizzle cock off M J & K Gaunt stock. Mr & Mrs Alan Stretton had em on song, they timed in five birds in 22 seconds to take 7^th; 8^th; 10^th; 11^th; & 12^th fed on 1736.6; 1735; 1732.7; 1731.7; 1731.2. first was the yearling Wall, Lunt & Green x de Meyer cock that was 5^th fed the week before from Honiton; followed by a yearling cock off a louis Thijs x with a daughter of “stirius” from Wall, Lunt & Green. third was a 2yo Wall, Lunt & green x Louis Thijs cock.

At Stretton, 9 sent 158 and Jim Parker & son continued their excellent form, after the previous week’s top 7 and 1^st fed, they followed up this week by taking the first 4 on 1724; 1721; 1716; 1714; all Wall, Lunt & Green Leo hereman cocks.

Davis, Wright & Sons

At Swadlincote Town, 9 sent 178 and Davis, Wright & Sons got the leading bird into south Derbyshire on 1742; Malc, Mike & Matt timing in a 2yo Irish rung Andre Roodhooft hen bred by the Gordon Bros.

Clive Yates was 3^rd & 4^th on 1719; 1718; with a yearling Vandenabeele x Mark Gilbert hen and a yearling cock bred by Micky Betts of Scawsby.

Over at Hill Ridware, 8 sent 142 and R & G Jones & Batt won a tight finish, taking 1^st & 3^rd on 1696; 1695.6; both yearling hens. the first a Leo Hereman bred by club mate Kevin Johnson of Kings Bromley, she is a granddaughter of “Man O Chester”. she was followed by one off Stevie Price stock. Mr & Mrs K Lycett were runners up on 1695.7 with a 2yo cheq cock bred by their good friends the Gordon Bros. the nest sister to this cock has a 2^nd fed (beaten by loftmate) and 37^th open NMCC Carentan 2020 to her credit. D Nesbitt & sons were 4^th on 1684 with a yearling hereman Hen.

At Osmaston park, 12 sent 155 and Mr & Mrs Paul Todd took 1^st club on 1728 with a 2yo bwf Lambrecht cock. Simon Woolley was runner up on 1721 with a yearling blue cock off ant Arnold. Dave Waddington was 3^rd & 4^th on 1720.3; 1720.1; with two yearling chequer cocks. the first was off Alan Brassington stock; followed by one out of the prolific “Bat” lines. Finally,

At Etwall, 8 sent 120 and Alan & Liz Houldsworth took 1^st & 2^nd on 1671; 1629; the winner the yearling cock gifted to them by Ralph Jepson as a yb, he is out of a cock which originates from Spink & Barks of Hill Ridware. runner up was a yearling Hereman Ceuster cock. Alan Peach was 3^rd on 1619 with a 3yo John Stretton Janssen hen and Neil Crofts was 4^th on 1615 with a yearling cock.
