MR & MRS KEN LYCETT OF RUGELEY TAKE TOP TWO OUT OF FROME (2).

Saturday September 2nd saw 95 members send 1659 birds to Frome (2); it was a glorious day for the yb’s with sunshine and very light winds. After the early mist lifted, the birds were liberated at 09-30 into a light NW wind, turning South en route, to be fair there was hardly a breath of wind, so no real advantage; it was down to the best birds on the day.

Congratulations to Ken and Cath Lycett of Rugeley, flying in Hill Ridware they took 1st; 2nd and 11th Fed on 1503; 1500; 1476; their winner a blue hen off their champion cock “Eddy” when paired to a Gordon Bros Roodhooft hen. Runner up and 11th Fed were nestmates, both bred by the Gordon Bros off their Thijs Peeters stock.

Clubmates Mason & Jones took 3rd and 4th Fed on 1495; 1494; with a Steve Price Soontjen and a NEHU bred bird off Graham Jones of Guisborough. Elmore and Smith of Birch Coppice led home 7 top birds in their club, their winner that took 5th Fed on 1491.8 was a Stefaan Lambrecht hen off border lofts stock.  Clubmate Rob Horton had five in 78 seconds to take 6th; 7th; 8th; 9th; and 12th Fed on 1491.6; 1490.7; 1490.1; 1486; 1475; a mix of Van Den Bulk and Lambrechts. John Gilbert, also of Birch Coppice, took 10th Fed on 1484 with a Lambrecht x Wildie cock.

Starting at Stretton, 10 sent 193 and Jim & Matt Parker had a dream day, taking the top 14 , the best four on 1467; 1466.8; 1466.6; 1465; the winner a CWL Drapa x Huybrecht hen, a granddaughter of “Miss Magic”. Runner up was a CWL Drapa Slatey hen, a Granddaughter of “Thor”. Third was a CWL Drapa x Huybrecht cock, full brother to the winner. Fourth was a Macaloney x CWL cock.

At Winshill, 6 sent 96 and Jim and Matt Parker dream day continues taking the first four on 1464.7; 1464.3; 1462; 1456; the winner a CWL Drapa x Heremans hen, winning her third red card in the club.  She is a Granddaughter of CWL top breeding cock “Eurovision” and “Thor” and “Shelby”. Runner up was a CWL Drapa x Hereman hen, a granddaughter of “Grey Gem” and “Thor” and “Shelby”. Third was a CWL Drapa x Heremans hen, a Granddaughter of “Miss Magic” and “Thor and Shelby”; fourth was nestmate to the 3rd club. Jim and Matt capped a great day by taking 1st & 2nd breeder buyer with their 3rd and 4th birds, winning £260-80. P & M Stringer took 3rd prize of 32-60 with one of Jim and Matt’s, a CWL x Heremans hen, so another £32-60 in Jim and Matts pockets.

At Etwall, 11 sent 166 and Tony & June Whitehurst make it 4 wins on the bounce with an Eric Ceuleman doing the business on 1462. Steve Billings was 2nd on 1443, Alan Peach 3rd on 1434 with an Ian Axe Delbar, and Sam Phillips took 4th on 1419.

At Osmaston Park,11 sent 146 and Dave Waddington continued his rich vein of form, taking 1st and 2nd club on 1462; 1448. Stan & H W Hall were 3rd and 4th on 1447.9.

Down at Birch Coppice, 10 sent 194 and Elmore & Smith win a tight finish, Alan and Dean got a Stefaan Lambrecht over the pad doing 1491.8. This is out of new stock from border lofts. Rob Horton took the next four on 1491.6; 1490.7; 1490.1, 1486. Robs first a mealy cock, Robs’ flying a mix of Van Den Bulks and Lambrechts.

At Tutbury, 4 sent 88 and Pete and Jackie Cox continue to dominate, they took the first four on 1461; 1445; 1444(2); with their stock off Ann Smith; Alan Brassington and John Sheasby.

Into South Derbyshire now, at the Miners Arms, Mr & Mrs Graham Evans took 1st and 4th on 1442; 1417; the winner off a Mick Harvey & Son cock that was bought at a breeder buyer x with one of Grahams Wildies.  Mick Harvey & Son took 2nd & 3rd on 1438; 1424.

At The Nelson, Mr & Mrs Trevor Collins & Son were 1st & 3rd on 1447; 1434, the winner a De Meyer x Lambrecht cock was pooled and nominated; followed by a syndicate loft cock off stock loaned by Peter Watson. Mick Harvey & Son were runners up on 1445 with a grizzle cock out of stock from Mick & Jo Gaunt x “Max” lines, his full brother won out of Frome(1); their next bird took 4th on 1428.

At Swadlincote Town, 6 sent 99 and Trevor & Gary Collins took 1st & 4th on 1450; 1438; the winner a cheq pied hen out of “The Good Hen”; followed by a Lambrecht x De Meyer hen.  Davis, Wright & Sons were 2nd & 3rd on 1445(2); their first a Van Reet x De Meyer cock, the sire “Bognor”, the dam off A & L Painter. Their second bird was a Van Reet x Gaby cock, the sire “Captain Beaky” a halfbrother to “Bognor”, the dam a daughter of Brian Shipleys’ “Charlotte”.

Finally, at Hill Ridware, 7 sent 210 and Ken & Cath Lycett took 1st & 2nd on 1503; 1500; the winner a blue hen off “Eddy” the winner of 11 x 1st club and 5 x 1st Fed, “Eddy” has produced winners with every hen he’s been with. The mother is a daughter off “Sandras’ Brother” an Andre Roodhooft from the Gordon Bros in Northern Ireland. “Sandras’ Brother” was 1st Ace pigeon KBDB great middle distance for Andre. This young blue hen has now won a 1st; 2nd; and 3rd this season. Runner up was an irish rung cock bred by the Gordon Bros; they are off their Thijs Pieters stock. This young cock was only 3 seconds behind his cousin in the recent MCC Portland race; his cousin was 11th open provisionally. Mason & Jones took 3rd and 4th club, Rich and Gordie timed in a Steve Price Soontjen hen and a blue pied cock bred by Graham Jones of Guisborough North Yorkshire.
