BURTON & SOUTH DERBYSHIRE FEDERATION.

Phil Bourke makes it back to back fed wins out of a very poor Hullavington race.

Saturday August 2nd was as near as perfect a day as you could wish for to race pigeons, especially young birds. Dry, bright, blue skies, white fluffy clouds and a light NW wind.

We all thought we were in for a classic young bird race with great returns; but this turned out sadly to be far from what actually occurred. The leading birds made the expected velocity, I said to Phil Bourke,” try and beat the 2 hour mark for the 95 mile trip”; which his winner did by 27 seconds. Unfortunately after the initial rush, things dried up, a lot of later birds were still coming on line, but returns to some lofts can only be described as awful. Some lofts suffered a lot more than others, in Stretton the best returns on the day was 38/42, and the worse 25/38, returns were around the 80% mark. Also heard returns of 29/32 and 7/8 on the day, also there was a few birds home Sunday morning.

I love this scribe’s job, but I hate reporting on races like this, horrible to see fanciers losing the young birds.

1316 birds entered by 52 members from 8 clubs were liberated at 10-40 in a NW wind, and for the second week running the Hilton lofts of Phil & Jack Bourke flying at Stretton; take top spot. Their fed topper on 1400 is the Grizzle cock “Stevie G”; he was 2nd club; 2nd fed the week before out of Cheltenham, beaten by a loft mate by 1 second. His sire is “Mo” their good multiple winning Soontjen x Syndicate loft cock, retired to the stock loft after injury; and the dam is a sister to Tony & Lee Painters “Heartbreaker”; who is out of one of the Painters top stock pair “Loverboy” (David Peeters)“ and  “Fibbersley Princess”(De Meyer) .
