MR & MRS TONY WHITEHURST WELL CLEAR AS THE

WEST WIND BLOWS STRONG OUT OF HULLAVINGTON(1).

77 members sent 1568 birds to hullavington (1), the birds were liberated at 09-45 in a brisk west wind, which once again saw the Eastern based lofts dominate. In these winds the leading birds are well East of Burton & South Derbyshire, and a long way off from Lichfield and Rugeley!!!

TONY WHITEHURST 1ST & 2ND FED HULLAVINGTON.

Saturday August 12th proved to be glorious for Mr & Mrs Tony and June Whitehurst of Shardlow, flying with the Etwall club. The M.N.F.C. chairman was 1st & 2nd fed on 1598; 1597; well clear of the field, Tony actually took 9 out of the top 10 in the club, with the 10th club doing 1532!! Tony was also 9th; 10th; 11th; 12th; 14th; and 15th fed. Tony is now racing the Eric Ceulemans which he obtained from Kev Spiers of Nottingham.  Another Etwall loft with his ybs in fine fettle is that of Alan & Liz Houldsworth, they were 3rd fed on 1560 with a blue cock out of their Lambrecht / Rob Pearson stock.  Rob Horton of Birch Coppice made an ominous start to his yb programme, taking 4th; 7th; and 8th fed on 1454; 1542; 1541; the first two mealy cocks, the third a red hen, all Van Den Bulks. John & Steve Hicks got the winner at Osmaston Park to take 5th fed on 1544.9 with a slatey cock.  Completing the top 10 were Mr & Mrs John Passey & family of Appleby Magna, taking 6th fed on 1544.4

 

AROUND THE CLUBS

Starting at Hill Ridware, 8 sent 170 and the consistent Walker & Waite took 1st; 2nd; and 4th on 1513; 1512; 1503; the winner a Keith Gaut Van Loon x I & B Jonesvan Elsacker. Runner up was a Jack Walker Vandenabeele x I & B Jones Jansenne. The sire was “Junior” the last son off the “Super Couple”. Their next bird was another Jack Walker Vandenabeele x I & B Jones Jansenne. The Vandenabeele out of “Golan Jakk 11” direct son of Syndicate Lofts “Golan” x “Steffi” who is a direct daughter of “Golden Gabby”.  Mr & Mrs Ken Lycett were 3rd on 1509 with a Vandenabeele x Andre Roodhooft. The sire “Super Frank” a 12 yr son off “Pale Rider” who was returned to the Lycett Lofts from Davis, Wright & Sons where he bred 18 x 1st. The dam came from the top irish lofts of the Gordon Bros, her father is “Sandra’s Brother”. On the same day another off “Sandra’s Brother” won 1st Open EDC Thurles against 4800 birds for the Gordon Bros. “Sandra” was winner of 1st National Ace pigeon Belgium Greatmiddle distance old birds KBDB in 2015.

At Etwall, 11 sent 172 and Mr & Mrs Tony Whitehurst took 1st; 2nd; and 4th on 1598; 1597; 1540; all Ceulemans, with Alan & Liz Houldsworth 3rd on 1560.

Into South Derbyshire now, starting at the Nelson, where Davis, Wright & Sons took 1st, 2nd and 4th on 1538; 1519; 1466; the winner a Vandenabeele hen, the sire a winner of 3 x 1st and 12 fed positions, the dam their NMCC Messac winner. This pair has bred birds to win from 100-400 miles. The runner up was a Van Reet x Vandenabeele hen, and their third a sister to the winner.  James Horne was 3rd on 1482 with a Vandenabeele cock.

At Swadlicote Town, Davis, Wright & Sons took top spot on 1492 with a Vandenabeele hen, bred by Mick & Neil Harvey and purchased at the clubs breeder buyer, which unfortunately starts the following week!! T & D Fearn were 2nd & 3rd on 1488; 1486; the first was “Pip Squeak” a blue pied cock out of “Broken Wing”/Van Reet and Vandenabeele stock. This cock got his name due to the fact he was always squeaking when being reared and weaned, they then found that he can’t see very well close up, so is hand fed on beans. Think he needs a trip to specsavers Debbie? The second arrival was a Tony & Lee Painter De Meyer x Terry Old Family, “Broken Wing/Bomber/ Jansennes.  Litherland, Bailey & Harrison were 4th on 1480 with a Buscheart hen.

At The Miners Arms, Hoogendyk & Parker were 1st on 1505 with a Curtis, Wall & Lunt hen bred by Chris Parker.  Mick & Neil Harvey took the next three spots on 1497; 1486; 1477.

At Winshill, 6 sent 115 and Jim & Matt Parker took 1st; 2nd; and 4th on 1509; 1508; 1458; the first two CWL/Drapa x Hereman hens, the winner out of CWL “Eurovision” lines x the lofts top breeding pair “Thor” and “Shelby”, runner up out of “Thor” and “Shelby”. Their third bird was a Heremans x Huybrecht hen.  Jim Ottewell was 3rd on 1505 with a Van Reet hen.

At Tutbury, 6 sent 89 and Phil Whetton took the first six on 1434; 1422; 1414; 1413(3). The winner a Lambrecht x Vandenabeele, then a Vandenabeele x S.Bennett of Bristol. Third was a Lambrecht, and fourth a Vandenabeele off Pete & Jackie Cox stock.

At Osmaston Park, 12 sent 236 and John & Steve Hicks took 1-2-3 on 1544; 1534; 1531.8; with Dave Waddington 4th on 1531.0

At Birch Coppice,6 sent 133 and Rob Horton took the top four with his Van Den Bulks on 1545; 1542; 1541; 1535.

At Stretton, 9 sent 154 and Jim & Matt Parker took 1st & 2nd on 1505; 1503; both CWL/Drapa x Hereman hens. The winner was a g/daughter of “Grey Gem” and “Thor” and “Shelby”; the runner up a daughter off “Thor” and “Shelby”.  Ray & Jean Grimsdell were 3rd on 1477 and Alan Brassington 4th on 1466.
