This week like most this season has seen a delay of the race marking due to unfavourable weather conditions for the youngsters. The convoy of 1650 birds and 5 Fauldhouse club baskets were liberated at 09:20 in a light North wind with clear weather on route for the 96 miles fly from Hexham back to Central Scotland.
Like most weeks the race was very erratic with big gaps on the birds return and many reporting losses.
When is it going to end or is the end of how we fly youngsters. The present race programme is dated and needs to be changed. We would be better with one race point and sticking to it. Say Appleby and race from there each week. Something needs to change. The majority of fanciers are only interested in only educating the birds for old bird racing. We could race mid-week and at the weekend, four weeks with two races and that’s it for the season.
Anyway the usual ones will shout down any change and that will be that.
This weeks winner belongs to Dave Love of Clarkston club, Dave has been flying terrific this season and has been going from strength to strength after joining the club this season. He is the man to beat and has dominated the prizes.
He timed after 2 hrs 19 minutes to record a velocity of 1218.This was well out in front of the next bird in the federation recording 1177. A bird in form from a loft that is at the top of its game. The bird is bred out Dave Atkins bloodlines purchased through Andrew Hitchcock. Dave calls the sire the Blackpool cock, as he picked it up at the show after purchasing it from Andrew. The breeding has the Z ring cock and masterious girl in the bloodlines. Well done Dave.
