Clarkston & District Open Racing Pigeon Shows 2013

The show season is always a great way for members and friends to get together during the non racing season for a chat and some healthy competition. Our own club has always run shows on the Wednesday nights which has proven a break during the long winter week days for fanciers to show their racing stock. It’s always a good guide to the health and well being of your pigeons to receive some tickets. Everyone has their own opinion of what type is their choice but health is always observed by everyone. Some fanciers take these events seriously and put the effort into their management to compete at the top level. Good luck to them as it’s always a treat to view these birds.Fanciers have come and gone in relation to their attendance for one reason or other but what is healthy is new faces always appear to challenge the best and present champions. This year is no different with fanciers from all over the central belt attending the first show. This year we changed the first show to include a pied class, which some had their reservations about but this turned out a healthy birdage for the handling class and gave some the chance to compete on a level playing field. This year’s judges were Robert Anderson from Kirkintilloch, a very well liked and respected fancier who races an excellent pigeon, who managed the eye-sign class. The pied class was managed by Callum Walker from Law Village who has had an outstanding season in the Carluke club in the Lanarkshire Federation.

Best in Show Michael Walsh, wins bag of VL Mixture. Michael recently joined Clarkston and only showed the one pigeon tonight. BOS, Eddie Harrison, wins Bag of VL mixture. Highest points winner J Carberry & Son for the second year. These guys turn out some quality of pigeons and like last year lifted the prize. They also won a bag of VL mixture for this trophy.

Thanks to John McNeil from Broxburn who judged the classes and even won a bag of VL mixture. John is unquestionably one of the finest all round fanciers Scotland has ever produced.

Big thanks to Dave Lindsay for his kind gesture of home baking and it was fitting he won the the 2014 donated YB from Steven Aitchiston from Eyemouth in the raffle.
Big thank you to club members who take the time to make this a special set of shows and everyone who supported the shows.Well done to every winner as it takes some winning such is the quality of birds on display.

One judge stated that the quality on show is as good as anything you will see at the National shows.

Positive feedback about the shows provided which is always good.
