Lanarkshire News - Clarkston club Festive Shows
Clarkston Open Show -Saturday 20-12-25
As stated in the past the social side of the sport during the non-racing period is a very important part of clubs keeping their identity and encouraging social gathering and communication between fanciers.
A club trying to promote everything good in the sport.
This year was different from the traditional Wednesday evenings that took place over a six week period between November and December.
Changing to eight classes, four classes through the wires and four handling, finishing with a "Special "class .
All in the one show.
So plenty of pigeons to get through for our judges!
Saturday broke with fanciers from a number of clubs attending for a cracking day of great competition.
The judges John Hadfield and John Burnside from West Lothian took the time to travel through to Airdrie to help support fellow pigeon fanciers.
These fanciers have a cracking pedigree in the sport and are names that are easily recognised in our sport.
Thanks to both for their time and support.
With eight classes to undertake so everyone was advised that we would start with the old bird through wires followed by the handling and after a short break we would have the young bird classes.
We had refreshments and a raffle for those in attendance and also an auction of two cracking bred 2026 YBs from Martin Miller out of his top class stock.
Thanks to Martin for his support/donation and all others who provided donations.
Thanks to all who supported Clarkston shows that's been available to the fancy since the early eighties.
Everyone appeared to enjoy their day and with positive feedback about the class of pigeons on view.
The committee thanks everyone who took the time to support the show.

Clarkston V Airdrie clubs competitive show 27/12/25
The first venture of both clubs to come together with a club show between both clubs to work "together "in ventures for the future.
There was four handling classes with the birds in the pen looking in excellent condition.
The two judges were Stuart Lammie and Andy Graham from Carluke club, who have had their success within the pigeon sport with Stuart being a past winner of Lanarkshire federation Young Bird Averages and Andy winning this years Old Bird Inland Averages and 2nd Overall Combine Averages.
Both were advised that eight tickets per class on offer and both got down to selecting their choices.
The "Specials" were judged by Martin Miller from Chapelhall club, thanks to Martin for his continued support to the club.
Thanks to the judges for their time and efforts and hopefully they can return for a future date.
I would like to thank everyone who attended and to those who provided donations and prizes as without these the shows wouldn't continue.
The next venture between both clubs is a joint race before or during the race programme.
Hopefully the next venture can see others taking up the challenge!
