Otterburn Race 30.4.16

This week due to a change in the original race programme we arrived at Otterburn in Northumberland in the North East of England.This is around the eighty odd mile back into Lanarkshire. The weather on Saturday was bright and sunny with a light west wind and the 6,950 birds were liberated at 08 30hrs. The winners made light work of the distance recording well into the 1300s around the federation clubs but were very erratic for such a short journey. Like most races in the early season some birds aren't in race condition and hesitate to break and this can cause big gaps in the times. Anyway like the previous weeks racing the west section of the federation have shown us some top performances . It makes you wonder what direction these birds are taking ,possible splitting with some coming out of Moffat and others heading up the Pentlands. Possible technology in the future will allow us to put your birds ets ring into the computer after the race and it will map its return. You never know.
The returns were reported as a mixed bag but with most missing more than one or two. The weather was bright and sunny for the most part of the day at the home end which tells you some headed in the wrong direction.
This weeks federation winner is the highly successful loft of Cambuslang ace Wullie Millen,he also recorded a terrific team performance down there in Renfrew

winning the first four in the federation. Outstanding Wullie .
