NORTH ROAD CHAMPIONSHIP CLUB
NRCC latest

More good news has emerged from the rejuvenated North Road Championship Club this week as secretary Ray Knight revealed the progress being made in acquiring the club’s own transporter.
And an anonymous sponsor has come forward to help cover the cost of transport to the centenary Lerwick race.
The first part of the transporter, a Mercedes British Super Bike support vehicle, has been purchased, but not before a thorough inspection by professional motor expert and great friend to the NRCC, Merv Greatrix, and chairman Brian Garnham, no stranger himself to the world of haulage.
The vehicle has also been used as a mobile workshop for car racing, and the inspection team had no doubt that it was a good buy. It has air suspension and a sleeper cab.
The next step is for it to be sent to Germany to be fitted out by Geraldy, who will also include convoyer sleeping accommodation as well as crates for 1800 pigeons. A trailer will accommodate another 1200 birds.
Some of the finance is already available; the remainder has been guaranteed.
It is hoped that it will be available later this summer, possibly for the Lerwick race but, more likely, for Thurso.
In the meantime a deal has been struck with the Peterborough and District Federation to use their transporter for the earlier races.
Another big boost, said the secretary, is the generous donation of £1,000 to help towards the cost of this year’s race from Lerwick. “The donor wishes to remain anonymous, but this is a fantastic, and much appreciated, gesture,” said Ray. “It will go a long way towards making our 100th race from Lerwick a special occasion.”
Other good news is that last year’s race sponsors, including the deal that gives them space at the NRCC Day of Champions, have agreed to continue their involvement.
All this is in addition to decisions already made as follows in relation to the
Lerwick race:
1 First prize for the winner will be £1, 000 guaranteed.
2 Every section winner will receive a gold medal.
3 There will be a special £100 prize for the longest flying bird on the day.
4 The open winner will receive a magnum of champagne to help along the
celebrations.
5 Section winners will not be left out. Each one will receive a bottle of champagne.
The guaranteed £1000 first prize comes thanks to the generosity of Dave Brackenbury and Richard Manning, and the £100 prize for the longest flying bird comes courtesy of another top fancier Graham Kirkham.
The champagne comes by courtesy of Pol Roger, another very welcome sponsor. Sir Winston Churchill was said to be the most illustrious devotee, and customer, to Pol Roger’s vintage champagne.
The NRCC programme for 2016 is as follows:
May 14 Dunbar.
May 28 Perth.
June 11 Fraserburgh.
June 25 Lerwick.
July 9 Thurso.
September 3 Berwick young birds and old hens.
