Saturday April 16th saw the start of the old bird programme for both the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation and the Derby Burton & District South Road Federation.The Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Cheltenham for their opening race of the season and the pigeons were liberated at 13-00 in a brisk north north west wind.
Getting the first pigeon into Derby and taking three of the first four positions in Osmaston Park Homing Society was Mick Stone with a yearling dk/ch cock doing 1286 to take the red card.His second pigeon was a three year old blue cock doing 1262 followed by a yearling blue cock doing 1245.In second position with a two year old blue cock doing 1277 was John & Steve Hicks.
In Etwall & District Flying Club Peter & Shirley Harrison had a excellent day with their yearlings making a clean sweep taking all the first four positions .Taking the red card was a cheq hen doing 1203.8 which was purchased at Tutburys breeder buyer and was bred by Joe Marx.This hen also won the breeder buyer race. Next on the clock was a cheq cock doing 1203.2, then a blue pied cock doing 1190.9, followed by a red cock doing 1190.7.

In Derby South Road Flying Club L.D.S.Johnson took the first three positions with their yearlings.Their winner was a yearling Red Cheq hen doing 1189, followed by a yearling blue hen doing 1175 then a two year old blue hen doing 1152.In fourth position was Mick Leszczyack with a two year old blue cock doing 1112.
In Ilkeston Bulls Head Flying Club Deryck Towers had a good day opening his account for the season by making a clean sweep with his two year old cocks.Taking the red card was a blue cock doing 1269 followed by a cheq cock doing 1245 then two blue cocks doing 1175 & 1155.
In the Silver Ghost Homing Society Woolley & Rogers get the red card with their good pigeon Breakaway doing 1143.This is Breakaways third red card.In second & third positions was Mick Willis & Family.Their first pigeon was a five year old red hen of the old red hen lines doing 1096 followed by a five year old b/pied hen doing 1093 bred from his no 1 channel pair.In fourth position was Reuben Hough with a four old year old cheq cock ( The Dart ) doing 1089.

The Derby Burton & District South Road Federation started their race 2016 race programme from Upper Heyford with the pigeons being basketed Saturday for a Sunday race due to the bad weather forecast and were liberated at 11-20 in a north west wind.
Taking the red card was the Oakwood man & wife partnership, Paul & Lynda Todd who also took third & fourth positions.Their winner was a three year old blue hen doing 1407 followed by a three year old cheq hen doing 1356 then a yearling blue cock doing 1348.In second position was L.D.S. Johnson with a two year old blue cock doing 1387.
