Derby Premier Flying Club started their 2025 season Flying in the Midlands Combine from Upper Heyford on Saturday 12th April.
4 members sent 52 birds which were liberated at 09-30 in a southerly wind.
Opening their account for the season was Mr & Mrs P Todd ( Paul & Lynda ) who took three of the first four positions. Their winner was a three year old cheq hen doing 1657.6 followed by a two year old cheq cock doing 1623.9 and their third pigeon was a three year old blue hen doing 1621to take fourth. Fred Stevenson took third with a two year old mealy cock doing 1622.
The Burton & South Derbyshire Federation opened their 2025 season with their first race from Cheltenham on Sunday 20-04-2025.. The decision was made by the weather committee to put the race back 24 hours as the forecast was better on Sunday than the Saturday.( First class decision ).Our conveyor Alys got the pigeons away Sunday morning at 10-20 in an easterly wind.
In Holbrook Miners Welfare Flying Club 7 members sent 173 birds with Kevin Matthews clocking two pigeons doing 1375 & 1373 to take the red card and also second. In third & fourth was Mr & Mrs Ken Salt doing 1352 & 1344.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 5 members sent 106 birds where A.Peach & Son made it the first clean sweep of the season taking the first four positions. Taking the red card was a yearling Grizzle cock doing 1327 followed by a 6 year old blue cock doing 1325.In third and fourth was a 6 year old blue hen doing 1324 followed by a 2 year old blue cock doing 1322.

Osmaston Park Homing Society 9 had members sending 129 birds with Alan & Liz Houldsworth getting the winner with a 3 year old bl/ch hen doing 1324 ( the only pigeon in the club doing over 1300 ypm ).In second with a yearling mealy hen doing 1299 was Hall & Torry. Third & fourth positions went to Mick Stone with a yearling cheq cock doing 1282 followed by a yearling ch/wf hen doing 1296.

Sunday 27th April and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Marlborough with the race being put back 24 hours once again due to the bad weather forecast down south. Our convoyer Alys got the pigeons away Sunday morning at 10-10 in a light south west wind.
In Osmaston Park Homing Society 14 members sent 193 birds and it turned out to be a two loft race with Dave Waddington taking the red card with a yearling blue cock doing 1734 and his second pigeon a two year old cheq cock doing 1694 to take fourth. In second & third was S & H W Hall with a yearling blue pied cock doing 1723 and a two year old blue cock doing 1702.

Holbrook Miners Welfare had 8 members sending 232 birds with Russ Bailey taking three of the first four positions with his winner doing 1717 with his next two pigeons doing 1715 & 1714.In second were Mr & Mrs Ken Salt doing1716.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 7 members sent 121 birds with A.Peach & Son getting back to back wins and making it another clean sweep. Their winner was a three year old D/wf cock doing 1705 followed by two 2 year old cheq hens doing 1668 & 1640 then a yearling blue cock doing 1629 to take fourth.
Derby Premier had four members sending 75 birds to Marlborough who were transported with the Midlands Combine. Their pigeons were liberated Sunday morning at 08-45 in a light south west wind. Making it a podium finish were Mr & Mrs P Todd (Paul & Lynda ) with a two year cheq cock taking the red card doing 1635 followed by a four year old blue hen doing 1626 then a yearling blue hen doing 1624 to take third. In fourth were Glew & O’Donnell with a two year old blue cock.
